Forums - Gaming Discussion - Street Fighter IV: PS3 vs 360

Did you know that the fight scenes in SO4 had the worst resolution of any HD games? It's barely more than the Wii games resolution.

So does it mean the game will suck and you won't buy it? No?

Then shut up and stop trolling, SF4 is the same on both consoles, you won't notice any difference on your TV even if you were looking for it.

ROFLMAO!! That article has to be the biggest pile of crap I have seen in some time now. So your telling me that Naughty dog can make a game like uncharted 1 and 2 stream data straight from disc but SFIV suffers from a lack of bandwidth between CELL and RSX? yeah....right.... The video also looked identical on both systems.

Another funny part is that it still tries to link the RSX to a desktop GPU. Apparently they still don,t understand how the PS3 works. They have there bandwidth numbers waaay off as well.

I bought Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD for the PS3 AND the 360. I have to say, the 360 experience was much better (online) than the PS3 version. No lag, Always somebody to play with, voice chat. I am not kidding when I say this: My 360 is broken. Today, I stood in line with the PS3 version of Street Fighter IV. After thinking about it for a minute, I put the game back on the shelf, grabbed a brand new XBox 360 and the 360 version of Street Fighter IV.

I realised that I was acting to hastily, and put the 360/Street Fighter IV back on the shelf, but I swear, I will buy another 360 and SF IV before I settle for the PS3's version. Online is THAT important to me!

SF on 360 > SF on PS3

If online was so important to you then you would have already purchased the PS3 version. Name me one 360 game that supports 60 player online with no lag.....scratch that, name me one 360 game that supports 32 player online period. Ps3 pwns the 360 in terms of online play.

You don't mind the d-pad? It's a fighting game after all...

Why do I always hear such awful things about the Ps3 online? Is it really that bad or is it just not as good as the 360?

No its not. The only things Live has over PSN is features, NOT stability. Stability is dependant upon your own ISP, not Sony's or MS's servers for the most part. THey are equal when it comes to stability and speed.

You are just hearing the blasphemous lies of those who want to spread their bias upon the masses.

My reckomendation is to ignore them.

Ign Insider has claimed that with just standard Controllers the PS3 takes the cake.

Content and Control
Street Fighter IV is brimming over with content. There are twenty-five playable characters and each has their own custom storyline that plays out in anime cutscenes as you go through Arcade Mode. The player roster is a good combination of familiar favorites (Ryu, Fei Long) and all new characters to master (Rufus, Crimson Viper). There's also a Versus mode for quick action where you can play locally, against the computer, or watch the computer play itself to pick up some pointers. There's also an impressive online mode with global leaderboards and the option to receive challenges from online players at anytime, even in the middle of a single player arcade run.

There's a Challenge Mode where you'll be able to take on a number of specifically designed tasks like beating a certain number of characters in a specific period of time, or trying to win a certain number of matches with only one life bar. Then there's a Training Mode where you can go to practice each character's move set and learn how to string together combos. On top of all that, there's a full complement of Achievements and Trophies to keep goal-oriented players hungry for more e-glory. To help you bask in the victory glow there's also a gallery with character art, movies, and trailers that can be unlocked as you work your way through each mode. All of these features are identical on both the PS3 and 360.

One significant difference is in the controls. Purists will prefer to use arcade sticks, and there are several options on each platform. For a comparison of the two best arcade sticks make sure to read Scott Lowe's look at the Hori and Mad Catz models here. If you're not going to invest an extra hundred-plus dollars on a stick, then the PS3 offers the better control option. You can control character movement with either the d-pad or left analog stick. The PS3's d-pad is significantly more precise than the 360's with its cross design that makes pulling off special moves a snap. The 360's mushy disc of a d-pad is sluggish and imprecise. It'll take a lot of patience to use it quickly and efficiently, especially for diagonal moves and ultras.

If you'd rather use the analog sticks for character movement you'll still be better off with the PS3 version. The 360's analog stick is stubby and heavy, which makes it harder to orient. It can be difficult to tell if you're holding straight down or on a diagonal. The PS3's longer and more sensitive analog stick makes it much easier to keep track of horizontal and vertical inputs. The placement of shoulder buttons is another point in favor the PS3 controller. The 360's bumper and trigger layout is ideal for shooters, but in a hyper-competitive fighting game, moving from bumper to trigger for heavy attacks is harder to pull off in the heat of battle. The PS3's level surface between the L/R1 and L/R2 buttons makes things just a bit easier.

In terms of content on the disc, the PS3 and 360 versions are basically identical. The PS3 gets the win in this category solely for hardware reasons. The PS3 controller is just a better fit for a 2D fighter than the 360's controller.

Overall
1. PS3
2. Xbox 360

Presentation
Street Fighter IV is a lush game with bright colors and hugely exaggerated animations. It's a vibrant and impressive looking game on both consoles. Environments are terrifically detailed with a great variety of locales from an Irish distillery to a billowing volcano. The game runs fantastically on both PS3 and 360, with a steady framerate and identical level of detail in character models and stages. The PS3 version doesn't require an installation, but expect significantly longer loading times without it. It will take you 20 seconds or so to load into a fight without the game installed to the hard drive. With the installation these load times go down to 6-7 seconds. The 360 version has 6-7 second load times right from the start. You can also choose to install the game to the hard drive of your 360, but this had an imperceptible effect on loading times and framerate.

As usual, there are some minor differences in the way the 360 and PS3 render colors. The PS3 gives a brighter overall presentation, with colors appearing slightly sharper. The 360's color rendering process doesn't stand out quite as much, though you would never notice this unless switching back and for between the two versions. It's also easy to make up for any difference in the colors with some adjustment of your TV's settings.

Both versions of Street Fighter IV look and run great. The PS3 suffers from longer loading times, but a ten minute install will make this identical to the 360's. On the other side, the PS3 has a slightly brighter coloration than the 360. Neither issue should prevent you from picking up one version over the other. Ultimately both versions are equally impressive. Overall
1. PS3 & Xbox 360

The Verdict
Street Fighter IV is a terrific package on whatever console you choose to play it. In terms of the content on the disc, Capcom has done a fantastic job of matching features and providing PS3 and 360 owners with identical versions of one of the best fighting games in years. Both versions look and run terrifically, and you'll find all the same modes and features regardless of platform. If you're committed to playing with a fighting stick, the biggest factor in choosing a platform will probably be determined by where you have more friends. If you're going to be playing with standard controllers, the PS3 is the best choice. Its d-pad and analog sticks make special moves a lot easier to pull off. The spacing for the shoulder buttons make them easier to use, which can make a lot of difference in a competitive fight. Both versions are terrific experiences, but control is paramount in fighting games and the PS3 has the clear edge in the control category. If you have the luxury to choose, go with the PS3.

Overall
1. PS3
2. Xbox 360

ha ha ha ,SF4pwed,..XBOX360 rules again

I've been playing SFIVfor the last couple of days on the PS3 and I've never noticed any lag (or any PS3 game for that matter). There's also a lot of players online, so much so that I haven't gotten a chance to go into the Arcade mode too much.

Either way, both the 360 and PS3 versions are awesome. Just enjoy the game.
