The 360 and PS3 get destroyed by the wii in sales, and neither seem capable of slowing it down, let alone beating it. However I think the most damaging console to the wii seems to be the PS2. Not because of outright sales, or direct competition mind you. But rather because of 3rd parties still sticking with whatever is most profitable. The userbase is too small on the PS3, so what do they do? Make Ps3/360 games to reach the largest audience. The wii is a bit underpowered for most of those ports. However, still in attempt to reach the largest audience third parties make PS2/wii games. Now this wouldn't be so damaging except they make them PS2 games and port them to the wii rather than the other way around. Games like Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl show that the wii is indeed a next gen system. The level of detail on Brawl would not be possible on any last gen system, the lighting effect, incredible draw distance, and detailed models at a silky 60fps in metroid wouldn't be possible on a next gen system. I don't even have to go into Mario. But in order to reach the largest audience developers are making games for the PS2, that can be ported to the wii and slap some waggle onto it. Few of them are making wii games from the ground up that actually take advantage of the wii's hardware. At this rate I wonder how long it will take for the PS2 to actually fall behind the PS3 and 360, and finally die out. And when or if with the PS2 longevity (thanks to the wii) developers will actually start making games from the ground up for the wii, or just continue to try and cash in on the largest userbase. Thoughts?
