The wait for a 90+ rated JRPG continues....

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Heh, that is a very solid score compared to most of the JRPGs from either of the HD consoles this gen.

Now that's what I've been waiting for. Good score, should shut up quiet a few fanboys.

"30-40 hours of play time"

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is not an RPG for the ages, but it is a lot of fun to play. The way the story is delivered, through awkward dialogue and drawn out cutscenes, could be a lot better. The strong points of The Last Hope, namely the combat and level progression, keep things lively and engaging and help make this one a good way to kick off your JRPG gaming for 2009.

IGN Ratings for Star Ocean: The Last Hope (X360)
Rating Description

6.5 Presentation
From epic dungeons with few save points to epically awkward extended cutscenes, there is a lot that could have been done to make the story and experience more engaging.
7.5 Graphics
There is little that is visually stunning, but the game runs smoothly and there is a nice variety in locations to explore.
7.5 Sound
The soundtrack is nice. The English-only audio is not.
8.5 Gameplay
The combat and leveling really had me digging Star Ocean.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
A substantial role-playing game with lots of reasons to play the game multiple times.
8.0
Impressive OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Just read it (er, actually watched the video)...seems mostly positive. I think the graphics are pretty good even if he isn't sold on them. Sounds like the major negative is pacing (and 45 mintues cutscenes that can't be paused? Will there be the same uproar by the 360 fans that called this a drawback in MGS4?). I'm still undecided. I'm looking for a good RPG to pick up after I play Killzone, and still thinking this might be it.

it is, but just like with WKC there were people claiming that this could be the first AAA JRPG of this gen, and they were wrong. Oh well, here's hoping for the nextpromising JRPG, perhaps something on Wii.

...

very nice score....but as usual we'll get the people complaining about...."its not AAA" and the like...

For comparison's sake:

Lost Odessey got an 8.2
Blue Dragon got a 7.9
Infinite Undiscovery got a 7.1
Last Remnant got a 5.3

Certainly better than the GI one. The reviewer, Erik Brudvig, was the one that gave Blue Dragon a 7.9, so you can use that for comparison.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
