Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dragon Quest V DS is out

I still think the easiest solution is to just learn basic Japanese and skip the mindless localizations and petty "Dragon warrior was bettur!" arguments all together.

FF III and IV only sold because of name regognition and "pretty gwaphix" that lure in so many douch-bags every year, there isn't a single thing about their interfaces or battle menues that is more 'modern' than any of the DS DraQue's.

Please tell me you see why this is not a tenable option for the overwhelming majority of the population.

Please?

Not to mention yet another method of dodging the problem.  Both the arguments and the bad localizations.

There's fan groups out there that do re-translations of all the Dragon Quest games.  There's even groups that are re-working the scripts for DQIV DS and will certainly move onto V soon.  However, the point is that Dragon Quest shouldn't be treated like this at all.  And especially not by the OFFICIAL COMPANY.

Do you actually want to tolorate the petty fan arguments?

Fandom aside, yes there is something blatantly wrong with the way SE is handeling this series. The problem is that their eithertoo conceted to accept any form of constructive criticism or sadly think their actually helping this series by turning it into a conglomoration of racist caricatures, mind-numing puns and rejected Disney scripts. Hell, I'd say nothing short of Yuji Horii himself demanding them to stop will put an end to this, and even then if it taks something that drastic then it's just another perfect example of why SE has lost it's position as lead RPG developer in the world.

And saying you can't learn the basic principles of a forgien language is just another way to call yourself retarted.

So you don't see why it isn't a tenable solution for the average person?

The average person isn't even aware of Dragon Quest. I'm refering to the fans who want to cut out the middle-man and actually get the true story, names and spells without having to deal with an egotistical localization team on the scale of ted whoosley.

Oof.

Once could make the argument that Woolsey did the best he could within the parameters in which he was allowed to operate (SNES-era Nintendo edicts on disallowed content), but I suppose I see what you mean.

Shame, though. The localizations for the DS FF remakes have been fantastic.

At least with Ted Whoosley we still got a product close to the original product, just with stupid catch phrases for the characters.

This is just blatant changing of everything possible for the sake of changing it.

Also, I don't want to tollerate the fan arguments at all.  But the arguments would go away if the localization was fixed.

If life has tought me anything, RPG fans are exactly like DBZ fans. Even if the diolauge is fixed and well recived, we'll still be hearing about "how much better erderrick was than loto" for decades to come.
