Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Good Commodore 64 Games

I'm so excited, I need to post this video:

There are several good Commodore 64 games. I used to play Hardball to death. Hunchback was platformer that I used to like.

I'll add Allykat, Ghostbusters, Arkanoid, Paradroid, Beach Head, Law of the West, M.U.L.E., Raid over Moscow, Skyfox, Silent Service, Silkworm, Wizball, Battle Through Time.

And I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting.

I want my Atari 8bit computer stuff!  And that means 4 player MULE!

Oh, by the way, how do we know that the Wii VC won't be getting AMIGA games?

Most of the games published by Thalamus were brilliant: Creatures, Delta, Sanxion, Armalyte, Hunter's Moon and so on. Also, many people never got to play Intensity by Andrew Braybrook. It was probably his best game. Head Over Heels is another beauty. There's loads more too.

Some really original stuff as well as classic rip-offs like the Great Giana Sisters!!!

Yes.

llamasoft memories again...

the ridiculously annoying tune from Traxx that looped over and over.... i can sing that out loud but id love to hear it again... anyone got a link? cant find it anywhere.

There is a great site with basically all C64 music available for download, or at least they used to have them. Now it seems they've had some server problems and the songs are not available until they sort things out. Anyway, you can check this site out from time to time to see if they're making progress: http://www.6581-8580.com/

Another option is to download the SID file and some software to play it on your computer. For that, check out this page: http://www.hvsc.c64.org/

......uhhh.....ummmmm.....Starfox 64?

How I wish Creatures 1 & 2 would come to VC. The continual dismembering of cute creatures means that's unlikely to happen though.

Could I also just post a few details about why Paradroid is still my favourite game ever. It is a game of the utmost simplicity that manages to have endless depth and requires the utmost skill and strategy. You are a robot. You can take over other robots and acquire their abilities (in a fantastic competitive capture puzzle game). You can shoot other robots. Use these two tactics to clear the robots from a fleet of spaceships.

The strategy comes in how you decide to go about the job. Try and shoot powerful robots and you'll come a cropper. Try to take over robots too high above you in strength and you'll come a cropper.

So you shoot some lowly robots, take over a few lowly robots and work your way up the droid classes. But now you're stuck with a robot that's slow and needs loads of energy to keep running. Suddenly you're out of energy and back to square one, except now you've got rid of all the low class robots and have to try to take over one of the more powerful robots. It's all about hopping up and down the classes to take out the high powered droids without denying yourself the safety net of the low class droids. It is entirely nonlinear and has to be played in an entirely nonlinear way. Still the most intelligent game ever made.

I'd say it should be remade, but some crap developer would turn it into an epic FPS with a ridiculous story and entirely spoil everything that was great about the game.

Also, for classic C64 music, buy the Input 64 album. It's brilliant.
