Forums - Nintendo Discussion - RUMOR - Virtua Tennis 2009 boxart shows MotionPlus logo?

I can't see the thing, does it look like lungs?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'll get this or EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis '10. Which ever ends up being the better game.

nice. Should make that the definitive tennis game.

Thats if they use motionplus well, and they don't half-ass it. I'm sure many people thought the FPS genre would blossom on the Wii, but controls were shown to be problematic, and it wasn't until COD:WAW until it really had a nice feel to it. Could be a year or two for this one well :[

Untill COD:WaW ??? Metroid and Medal of honour were both much better (controls) and were released far earlier.

It's true MoH: Heroes 2 is still considered the best FPS on Wii control-wise and that was out a year earlier, and Metroid months prior to that.  CoDWaW is only 'good' not 'great' with FPS controls on Wii so you're quite off-base there.   The Conduit looks like it'll take FPS controls to an entirely new level though.

I don't want to put words in his mouth but I think he may have meant "sales wise" cause right now it is consistently in NPD top 30 games. But I agree controls were good BEFORE COD:WaW. Actually I like HOTD"OVERKILL controls as well...

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Yea but how the hell can you go wrong with 1:1? It'll be the players fault if they suck.

That's what makes me suspect that few, if any, Motion+ games will be completely 1:1. Not because the technology won't allow it (the demoes say otherwise), but because in many ways, for most people, true 1:1 won't be as fun as..."assisted" 1:1. By this, I mean that making the player have actual skill in tennis (or fencing, or baseball, etc.) would exclude most people, as they simply don't have the time it would take to make themselves "better" at the game.

And I think Nintendo agrees with me here. For example, Resort's swordfighting game isn't completely 1:1, but lets you block your opponent's attacks by pressing/holding a button (I believe; correct me if I'm wrong). I'm also fairly confident that the frisbee game will also be fairly generous in what results it gives you, somewhat like Wii Sports Bowling seems to add 50 points to your score.

I'm really looking forward to Motion+, and the possibilities it contains. But I know full well that it's going to be giving developers major headaches as well, since they now have to do an increasingly delicate balancing act between making a game accessible (in terms of how you control it) and accessible (in terms of just how good your motions have to be to get you "good enough" results).

I still envy them, though. This could be a very exciting time for gaming indeed.

I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this. Right now, Top Spin 3 is the best tennis game I've ever played.

This

Mostly the games that use WM+ will always be able to pick up your gesture and the gestures that are recognisable will increase dramatically. It'll also allow for for more natural gestures which will make games even more accessible

It would be cool if it was real, I suppose. I'd much rather take the artistic, cartoony game of Mario Tennis to a real tennis simulator any day, since I can just go out and play tennis. Playing games that try to be realistic are extremely boring to me. :P That goes for all sports though, not just tennis.

It'd be nice to see if they really nail the controls!

You ever play Virtua Tennis? It's pretty damn arcadey to me and has been since the first one. It's so arcadey in fact...that you can find it in the arcades! Holy palooza!

I think I remember the thing about using a button to block on the sword game, but I think there was a preview recently talking about the frisbee game being harder then it looks. It sounds like you can't phone it in, you've got to commit.

might actually be a good game. I mean other tennis games were not so great just more average. This might be good. Lets hope the controls are good if they are going to use motion plus.
