Forums - Gaming Discussion - Im so sick of the terms "XBOX 360s Big/Great Install Base .

Has someone explained to this guy that if we follow his logic and consider 360 sales 20 million then the install base would be even greater?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

^ Yes, but alas it was to no avail...

You said that your 'dead' console is sitting in your brothers apartment. Surely logically (seeing as though it's the word of the day) you can see the resale value in it, being that the repair fee is half the price of a new console. That's presuming it's even the Arcade or 'Core' sku. It could have a 20GB hard drive which bumps up the resale value even more.

Even sell it for $5. I'm sure there's people out there prepared to pay $105 for a 360 even under the proviso that it will take a week and a half to get back to them.

You guys are right but by me selling my 360 to someone else that wouldnt increase the install base wouldnt that just substitute the person owning it? lol Im confused ok like this...

i bought 3 360's so I sold those 3 to other people so while the 360 was losing a owner it gained a new one (the person buying it) so that wouldnt increse the sales number of the system itwould remain the same...I guess idk im lost I hope some1 gets what im saying

wow someones retarted for not using their warranty

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

No, it doesn't increase the install base. It doesn't distort it at all. Three consoles were purchased by the same person, but the ownership was transferred to three other people, so it's still +3 to the install base.

This compared to the idea in the OP, which is that, apparently, when a 360 dies, somebody throws it in the trash (or leaves it in their brother's apartment in Chicago) and buys a new one.

OP his far from being wrong on this one, although the occurence is not as common as it was intended, many people have bought a spare 360 or upgraded to an Elite hoping the problem were solved. And now that the Arcade is cheaper than ever and the three year warranty for RROD is expiring people tend to buy another 360 instead of paying 100$ for a repair that won't last.

Here is a page I randomly picked up from a thread on the official Xbox forum called "how long has your xbox360 lasted".

@Videogirl

Thats exactly what i was talking bout that i know many people who bought a spare 360 instead of waiting for it to be fixed then shipped back...thats not really a dumb idea to me some people just dont want to wait to play their games...as myself I would have done that also IF that happened to me but did'nt lucky me

@ videogirl
god bless you .

I agree that the 28 million is skewed by replacement and backup systems. I wouldn't be surprised if its a few million. But sony loses a bunch to people using it as a blu ray player only and play the odd game once in a while. So in the end, it all comes out in the wash.
