Gameplay.

All I need is your average cliche for a story and I can do just fine with it. Poor gameplay, on the other hand... Who wants to play a bad game for 40+ hours?

50/50 for me. I rather play a game with a bad story but good gameplay than a game with a good story but bad gameplay. However, I always prefer an RPG having both a good story and good gameplay.

I would say none....athmosphere is most important for me...If I can't feel I can't play an RPG...but if I need to choose...I will go with story.Poor story never turns me up

Definitely story, I'll take an amazing story, with a basic gameplay setup any day. Cause a bad story will make it so boring all the great gameplay in the world wont save it.

Story def.

MUSIC also is an option

RPG's are very long so music HAS to be brilliant!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Story. RPGs are going to be fairly long and repetitive, even with "good" gameplay. They need a good story to keep things going.

Definitely story for me. Music and art style follow right behind. I'll suffer through bad gameplay if it means I receive a good narrative. Stack on too many negatives like crappy music, bland art style, grind for hours gameplay and it would be more questionable. :D

Person 1: Does Valkyria Chronicles have trophies?
Person 2:  No.
Person 1: Forget it. I'm not buying it.
Person 2: Wait! It's amazing! Unique, charming, drop dead gorgeous... Hello?

i have to say a story (im a sucka for a good story)but the gameplay has to be good enough for me to continue the story

Definitely gameplay. I'd rather play a text-based dungeon crawler with a plot of "explore the dungeon and defeat the wizard" than an awkward battle system with the world's greatest story. I'd just read a novelization or manga of the story, and never play it.

EDIT: You can skip bad cutscenes.  You can't skip broken gameplay.
