Forums - Sony Discussion - Street Fighter IV Hits 86,000 Sold On Japanese Launch Day

It made the long-awaited jump to 3-D in like 1997

I can't believe people are saying these numbers are bad.

Some of you are acting like Brawl just got released and put up these numbers. Almost 90k first day is rock solid. It will easily break 100k in it's first week.

Also, in Japan, fighters are more popular on arcades than they are on home consoles; this is a big reason why the game isn't putting up larger numbers. Japan has already established a competitive scene on the arcades long before this game launched on the HD consoles. It's the same situation as Virtua Fighter 5 in 2007. Virtua Fighter 5, on the other hand, only sold 50k in its first week and failed to reach 100k. Given the situation, I'd say this game sold just fine.

Yes I agree. It´s just that many had much too big expectations saleswise from this.

I think what it is is that, sales for Wii games that sell like this (single platform) are called outright bombs but when ps360 games sell like this its "not bad considering"

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Huh? What the fuck are you talking about? What game sold 86k in Japan first day that was considered a bomb?

I said single platform game jack ass. Wii doesn't have the luxury of multiplatform combined sales. So take the 28000 xbox sold. When a Wii game sells that on one day its called a bomb by many a fanboy or fan.

How long has SF IV been out in Japan at the arcade? I think I heard you get a stat card that you swipe in the arcade to keep records of how you do and so on. I wouldn’t buy some console version if I invested time and effort into my stats at the arcade. I dont have that choice so I will be buying it for my 360.

Nothing does beat the arcade experience either… If you weren’t apart of the glory days you wouldn’t understand. I am jealous of the Japanese arcade players over there.

the bad thing is that HD console games are mostly about launch especially in Japan

it could sell much more if there was a big change in the game, apart from graphics and online, e.g make Street Fighter 3D

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
