Forums - Sony Discussion - Where is Sony's Response to January NPD sales?

http://kotaku.com/tag/corporate-gloating/

Does Sony out of Idea or what? Normally, they will post response about NPD sales directly after.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Realistically, how would you spin the numbers?

They can't do the "Playstation Family" spin because both the DS and the Wii outsold the combined Playstation line-up, they can't talk about month-over-month or year-over-year growth because all systems are down in both metrics, they can't talk about software sales or even high quality software that was released in January.

I don't know. Maybe there BS machine is on the fritz?

Yes, I have already read Sony response in a Spanish Magazine.

'Por último, Sony aprovecha las cifras registradas por Playstation 3 y sobre todo por PSP para anunciar que la portátil ya ha vendido más de 50 millones de unidades en todo el mundo desde su lanzamiento. Durante el último semestre del 2008 y el primer mes del 2009 se han vendido 9 millones de portátiles PSP.'

Basically, they say that PSP have already sold more than 50 million units worldwide since his launching. In the last 6 months of 2008 and January 2009, 9 millions of PSP have been sold. They do not say anything about PS3.

No, that's for PSP not NPD.

I guess there's not much to say. Surely, people will critique them for not commenting though, damned if you do, damned if you don't springs to mind.

It's the fact that things have reached the point they are so bad there is nothing to say. Their silence is very telling...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

My theory is that their entire PR department was eliminated to cut costs.

They probably looked at the past three years of gaffs and decided they were a liability rather than an asset.

I'm so mean.

As far as i can remember Sony always released a statement after NPD, i really don't know what they could say about it now though. Early on when the PS3 was doing bad they had the PS2 to lean on and sometimes the PSP, now all 3 are not doing very good. If you can find a good way to spin it go ahead, i can't find one.
