Creative Assembly Working On Unannounced Project For Xbox 360 And PS3

By William Usher: 2009-02-12 11:15:30

Looks like yet another multiplatform title is in the works. This time Creative Assembly is behind the upcoming, unannounced title. How can we know such things if the title is unannounced? Well, a couple of things gave it away and you’ll have to keep reading to find out what they were.

First of all, the PathEngine has announced that they have updated their SDK build to version 5.19.00. This might seem completely uncorrelated, but keep reading to find out how it all fits together. The new engine supports better path-finding middleware tools for developers who need to get AI to traverse large terrains and multiple routes intelligently and precisely.

The PathEngine has been recently acquired for use by the Creative Assembly for an upcoming title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Apparently the game they’re working on requires some major path finding across large open terrain. For those of you who don’t know, Creative Assembly are the same minds who brought you the Total War series and Viking: Battle for Asgard.

Furthermore, the same middleware is being used for Lionhead's upcoming title for the Xbox 360. Again, how do we know this? Well, the middleware company, PathEngine, gives it away on their website.

So what kind of game can we expect from Creative Assembly? Given the Creative Assembly’s penchant for large, battlefield type games, and the fact that the PathEngine is designed for AI that must intelligently traverse large terrain…it could be Viking: Battle of Asgard 2. But that’s just speculation.

I hope they do something a little more in the vein of Kingdom Under Fire. Viking was pretty fun, but the large scale battles were neither as epic nor nearly as strategic as I would have liked.

Good to see them giving consoles even more of their hot love. Stormrise is shaping up to be pretty sweet.

Sounds GOOD!

Unbelievable list !!!!

Kingdom Under Fire 2: Dominion is coming to 360 (and PC), so i guess we have that genre covered well

I loved the below bits

IronLore Entertainment (for 'Titan Quest' and 'Titan Quest: Immortal Throne'), they are probably using the same engine for the upcoming 360 only RPG Black Legion

Rare (for 'Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts' - Xbox 360 [released,reviews:1,2] , and another Xbox 360 title to be announced)

Lionhead (for a yet to be announced Xbox 360 title)

So, these games fully exist and are probably the big surprises MS keep secret for 2009 !!!!

@obamanian: Yeah, I'm psyched for KUF II. I haven't even heard of Black Legion before, though... I thought Iron Lore closed last year?

So, part of the first team, formed a new one and are looking for publishers for Black Legion on 360

So Lionhead's game will utilize large open terrain. Hmmm.

@obamanian: Oh, neat! Thanks!
