Forums - Gaming Discussion - DICE: No successful shooters on Wii due to difficult control scheme

I only really got one thing to say to this. I really dont understand whats he's talking about with the whole control setup thing, since fps are better on wii controllers vs the reg controller only thing is better would be mouse and keyboard.

Wii has a way better control scheme for shooters than dual analog control.

I don't know what he is talking about either. The only thing that can be said bad about the Wii controls is that they are so new to FPS that we don't know the perfect layout yet (you know default). So the FPS seem to have a ton of customization into it that YOU can do when you play.

Maybe he doesn't want to have to worry about programing that in. And would prefer to stick with the 7 year old dual analog default.

I think that this is more meaning that the aiming has to be assisted on the Wii more than any other console.

Assisted how?

auto-aim basically if your crosshair is within like 2 inches it will just drag your crosshair to that character that your attempting to aim at.

SSJ, have you played shooters on the Wii? It's the only console that doesn't need auto aim. You know how many PC FPS I've played, and I'm quite confident in saying that Wii controls are considerably more precise for FPS than Dual Analog.

It's dual analog that always has auto aim (Resistance, Killzone, Halo, etc. etc.) in my experience. I think by "difficult" he just means "hard to program for." I'd hope so, at least.

well, id consider CoD WaW sucessful, almost at 1mi, might sell 2mil in its lifetime, and the conduit looks great.

other than that, really, no others have been successful because no others have been exceptionally good. that easy.

I'd hardly call 2 million successful for a current gen FPS, especially a Call of Duty. Also, I very much doubt it's going to reach 2 million. It would be lucky to get 1.5, I think.

It's currently at 2.85 million on PS3, 4.8 million on 360 and 880k on Wii. This despite the Wii having the largest install base by far.

Yeah, I agree with him. There are no phenomenally successful FPS games on Wii.

Call of Duty is well known among PS360-Gamers but not by Wii-Gamers. Cod3 for Wii was mediocre and the good Cod4 never made it to Wii. Cod5 on Wii is not phenomenally successfull but at any rate a successful shooter, and so are Metroid Prime and Red Steel.

And I think the production costs of the Wii Version are much lower than the PS360 Versions.

All in all it seems that Patrick Liu has not much knowledge of the Wii market or the Wii controls (which are perfect for shooter).

yeah i need help to point my light gun style control at the screen--maybe they could even get a game that will load itself into my wii and put the controller in my hand, and while we are at it lets add some other stupid function that this guy doesn't know jack about--the ability to make me a sandwich

It sounds like Liu is insane, but that is just my opinion.

This.

Also: Auto-aim is not needed (and not used afaik) in Wii games, that's what makes it so good. It's not mouse+kb quality, but definitely much more accurate than dual analog.

RE4Wii doesn't have auto-aim where the GC/PS2 games do.

The Wiimote is much slower than a mouse, but at the same time, this guy is sounding lazy. Let's see how the Conduit turns out first... More than 2 years in and only one good fps has been made..doesn't mean it can't be done.
