Forums - Gaming Discussion - DICE: No successful shooters on Wii due to difficult control scheme

lets see

MOH
COD:WaW
The Conduit (soon the big test)

to some extent MP3 even though it is a FPA which is very similar.

Sure there hasn't been too much success, but has anyone really tried? I guess the conduit will be that testing barrier that may be broken.

It's true that programming FPS controls with the Wiimote+nunchuk is not easy compared to the "old" controls (I mean old by commonly known). Amnd requires a little more teaking. However his statement is a poor excuse, because developers are slowly getting the hang of it and showing how it can be possible.

"A Difficult Platform" is not in terms of development, but in terms of sales. You cannot sell a Core Wii game the way you promote a PS3/360 game. They are very confortable with the HD market (which is not bad by any means). However, blaming sales is an excuse to not admit that they are unable to properly market a Wii core game.

The Wii will have many "trial and error" games and marketign strategy. But gives a great opportunity for other developer to fully try and prove the well stablished games how wrong they can be

Well if they don't have anything in the works that's their choice. Of course I doubt there is much difficult for them to create a control scheme that works for the wii considering their owner, EA, has the Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 scheme in house that they could easily adapt to any game they need but that's fine.

They might be meaning something else but he does have a point at the lack of "super successful" shooters on the console. Although one could also argue, how many shooters have actually been released on the Wii to become successful.

I think that this is more meaning that the aiming has to be assisted on the Wii more than any other console.

Assisted how?

auto-aim basically if your crosshair is within like 2 inches it will just drag your crosshair to that character that your attempting to aim at.

Which game does this?

no, that is what I think he is just meaning in terms of controls. DICE prefers gamers to actually have to aim at a target. Not saying any Wii games do this, its just what I think they are meaning.

Well no shooting game does that on Wii and the only one that I can think of that assists you off the top of my head is CoD:WaW which only helps you keep the screen pointed towards the guy you're trying to shoot not aim for you, if you get a headshot it's totally you.  And most FPS games require you to do this it's basically set up to be like PC controls.

No but there are a ton of console FPSs with auto-assist. Warhawk, Resistance, Halo, Gears, COD and quite a few others have it.

Those are all dual-analog controlled games. Name one on the Wii and you have a point. Of course that will also require explaining why the RE4 designers felt they had to make the game harder due to the better aiming.

So you think the more accurate, and in everyway faster control system requires more assistance to work? So PC shooters need you to just automatically train onto the head to be good?

But.... no wii games do it, because it's almost as easy to aim with as a mouse....

Your kinda going in circles here.

Red Steel has aiming assisstance as an option, but it makes controls more difficult as it causes the reticle to stick to targets, harming looking.  I personally turned it off after about 5 minutes and it made the controls better

look at my reply to max, and the post between us for Red Steel since apparently that is one game that has it on the Wii, I just think this is what DICE is meaning, not that any Wii game minus Red Steel has this. They believe that the game needs it.

I'm not sure this dude ever picked up a Wiimote and played an FPS on Wii. Or certainly not one with great controls.

I don't rememeber Red Steel having this.

A "sticky aiming" function would only make things harder... I mean that's one of the reason dual analog auto aiming blows.

Someimes when you wanna hit the rocket launching alien you accidently end up stuck on the grunt.
