This is 250th time this kind of topic has been made but I'll answer anyway.

At this point in the console cycle, nobody (who thinks clearly) expects any single game to move any significant # of consoles except maybe in JP but even the consoles that are moved there are irrelevant with respect to WW sales.

this

that said, i fully expect to see this exact same thread started for halo wars and this point will have to be reinterated.  ./sigh

Oh god, I hope no one creates a thread like this for Halo Wars...

It wouldn't make any sense, any big halo fan would of purchased a 360 when Halo 3 came out.

Sorry did you say that that MGS 4 did not move consoles? Just take a look at the yearly sales for the PS3

KZ 2 wont convert many but there could well be a boost

I didn't say it did not move consoles, I said it barely made a ripple...which probably means the same thing :P.  I think the limited edition bundles probably didn't hurt in that respect, as they went pretty quick (around these parts anyways) and likely helped with the initial spike of ~300K units upon release.  I was actually tempted to buy one of the bundles at that time due to the hype, but the price was too high for me at that point (and still is).

Well it will move hardware, not a lot, but it will move some. But when the console will be cheaper, people will think about this game and eventually get the console. It's a long term effect.

Maybe a small spike, but not too much. There is only one thing that will bump up the average weekly sales is $299 and a slimmer edition for Japan, and I won't touch that topic.

Final Fantasy XIII Japan release is the only game that will cause a huge spike in worldwide sales as far as console-moving games go this gen for the PS3.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

@ Wyku

So are you agreeing that MGS4 moved consoles, which it did, or are you saying that that barely made "ripple" = not moving any consoles?

I agree that it moved some upon initial release, but not what people expected it to and that it wouldn't have moved as many had it not been bundled.  How's that for meeting in the middle? heh

Here's my conclusion after seeing what people think: KZ2 will be a great exclusive for the PS3 and will likely "convert" a few people upon seeing it at friends' places and whatnot, but it's unlikely to generate a great wave of excitement to really bring life to the sliding PS3 sales figures (but the possibility is always there!).  Games like Gran Turismo 5 and FFXIII on the other hand will likely bring that great excitement to those still on the fence, but probably not nearly as much as a price cut will do.  GT5 + $299USD PS3 Bundle = HUGE?
