Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox 360 has the edge over PS3

lol the tone of that article was just so fanboyish.

A PS3 at $300 will sell better than a 360 at $200. Mark my words.

great article and if there wasnt for RROD i alredy had a xbox 360

As pointed out by Source recently the PS3 has actually, time adjusted, been outperforming the 360 from launch until the most recent 360 price cut. Another useful Source article shows clearly that Sony/Nintendo have almost exactly swapped marketshare so far this gen.

It is the Wii, not the 360, that has taken the PS2 install base. The 360 is doing well continuing to grow the demographic the Xbox first appealed to, and has no doubt expanded a little beyond that. The PS3's problem isn't so much the 360 as it has ended up being seen, due to price and features, as an alternative to the 360 for some, and a too expensive new playstation vs the Wii's price point and features for others.

The 360 is of course hampering the PS3 with the online shooting crowd globally, but it is the Wii that's doing the real damage, and to ignore it as the author does shows he too has fallen into the trap of seeing the fight existing between the two HD consoles.

The fight for the top was with the Wii, and so far both HD consoles have lost. The only real edge the 360 has is a low enough price to keep it somewhat in front (time adjusted remember).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

most of the article is ... RIGHT

I would just add that the next Xbox360 pricedrop will not move significatively more console that the next ps3 price cut du to only 1 thing : Xbox360 is already quite cheap ...

Exactly. Further price drops on an already Mass Market price console wont have as big an effect. PS3 is still NOT mass Market. And as we saw for the 1st half of 08. People are willing to pay that bit extra for a PS3 over a 360

But the problem is, the Wii (and to a lesser extent the Xbox 360) is soaking up all the casuals, and the Xbox 360 is taking all the hard and medium-core at their current affordable price-points.

By the time the PS3 makes it to a mass market price point all those who would have purchased it will have a console.

+1

The article is simply stating the facts. That is how the situation is right now. Deal with it and don't rely on a possible price-cut. That is something in the future and we do not know anything about it.

and it remains to be seen when sony cuts the price and by how much. Of course we don't know anything about the impact of the price-cut either. So we can just assume the future or talk about the current situation and that's what the article is doing.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

The Xbox 360 Arcade could sell for $149.99 tomorrow, because Microsoft makes big bucks off each one sold. Sony loses money on expensive $129.99 Playstation 2 though, because its old and manufacturer's charge a lot more for pieces to make old stuff with.

Even though Sony Playstation 2 sells near 50% of what 360 sells, its very clear it costs them money to make (from money loser reports) , but MS would rake in the dough at $149.99 for easy-to-make 360, which will be made from straw and tin mostly at new price, which is way cheaper than PS2 stuff.

Pricecut will never help Sony! Microsoft will always win with even more cheaper 360!

You actually thick Sony losses money on a ps2?  Are you joking?

People said a price cut wouldn't help the 360 when PS3 was outselling it @ twice the price.  We all know how that turned out.

Microsoft's financial situation is not great.  They are cutting jobs and cost just like every other company.  They will not lower the price of any 360 untill Sony begins to catch up.  They would be stupid to cut prices before this, simply because they don't need to.  Profit is to important in the current economy and the amount spent on the RRoD continues to grow.(although at a slower pace).

plus, the 360 has reached its peak, as far as sales.  Check history, the third year is almost always the best year for any succesful console.  Last year was the 360's 3rd year and this year is the PS3 and the Wii's 3rd year.

The ONLY advantage the 360 has is price.   Everything else is a advantage to the PS3.

...I don't understand. ..wait. Is joking against the rules here on VGChartz?

How about beer?  Is there a beer rule?  I am no good with beer rules.

Realized the writer was a fanboy here:

"Forgetting about Nintendo (who hasn't)"

Promptly stopped reading.

What?  It's a spot on statement to make.  You have to eliminate Nintendo from the argument of sales when it comes to 360 and PS3, otherwise the Wii is always the elephant in the room that says, "it doesn't matter how well the also-rans will do....Nintendo has this generation in the bag."

That isn't a fanboy sentiment...but just the sentiment of one who understands the numbers of this generation.

I'm taking a guess here, but I think that thekitchensink was referring to the "who hasn't" part of that quote. At least, that's how I intepreted it as.
