Yes, they gain some sales but also lose a few. (at least til it gets cheap)

Does it really matter, I can barely tell the difference other than the writing

Looks good; I may just pick it up. Both versions look good, however I do prefer the US version more though.

Yes, that may be true but the former is likely to greatly outweight the latter. A more western design across the board will be highly beneficial to sales on a console such as the Xbox 360.
The Japanese menu and HUD portraits look much, much better, IMO. Damn you, $quare-€nix!

True, that bugs me even more than the different looks.
Both things should have been available as a choice.
The menus look better for US, but the anime pics in battles look better in Jap version. Can we not mix the 2?
