Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No LAN for Conduit and release date Confirmed

Well people musn't care THAT much or else a petition would be up right now :P

I don't know why this is even a shock to people.. They said they weren't going to do split screen ages ago and said they'd think about it for the sequel, why all the anger about it now?

Nintendo not allowing LAN is stupid though and I would like somebody to ask them why they wouldn't allow it. Perhaps the next Nintendo Minute or something.. It's a bit disappointing, not allowing High Voltage to not use friend codes and then saying no LAN either..

Did High Voltage choose Sega over Nintendo or something?? It's stupid..

You might have heard it before, I personally didn't. It's disappointing because local multiplayer is the best aspect of console shooters, and splitscreen online (á la Mario Kart) would have been even better.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Just to set this straight for people

SPLIT SCREEN ON Wii IS PERFECTLY FINE

It's exactly the same as single player, so no it's not more difficult. HVS didn't want it in there due to a drop in graphics and also dev time issues.

Its too bad, why do these companies sacrafice gameplay for graphics?! Bungie are becoming my idols for alway including 4 player split screen! Hell, even Epic made Gears and UT3 on the Xbox 360 split screen inspite of the graphics focus.

I seriously want to make a "Wall of shame" for games which come out without split screen multiplayer.

Tease.

splitscreen multiplayer is probably one of the reasons for the sales of games like mariokart wii and brawl (er that desn't really have splitscreen, but you know what i mean :b)

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=47568

Considering the way the industry is going, the wall of shame will be over 5 times the size of the wall of fame.

Actually, how does split screen work (if it does) on the wii? What's stopping you from crossing over to your opponents half/quarter of the screen?

I've only seen it done in games that aren't FPS, so it's basically waggle as opposed to aiming.

Has it been done before?

The same thing that stops you from dragging your cursor onto someone else's screen with a dual stick controller, that game simply doesn't let you.

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who ever tried Red Steel's multiplayer mode. I played Red Steel with three friends and it was fine for us, even my sister, who rarely plays shooters other then TF2.

I feel you. A few friends and I have played split screen Red Steel several times. It can actually be quite fun once everone is used to the controls.

For on topic, yeah, I do remember them saying no split screen before, but I'm still saddened by it. I haven't really done console LAN, but that would've been the next thing I'd try since I know a few people planning to get the game. I guess we'll have to hope the online works very well.

No splitscreen is a little disappointing. Its no contender to GoldenEye without it.

Even if it was limited in modes, maps and two player only (two player online at once would have been excellent).

LAN = meh, whatever. Wii is not really designed for that.

LAN is so last gen... As long as it has online... what's the point of LAN?

agree with you. They only need a solid online and a cool adventure mode

meh, don't care. I want the game, online play is good enough for me. Hopefully sequel will have split screen though or co-op.

Splitscreen multiplayer is what defines good nintendo gaming. Personally i never had a better time than playing with 4 friends in the same room Mario Kart Wii or Goldeneye in the past. Iwill still get Conduit but this is a major bummer since i never really cared about online gaming or Wii speak. And it's easier to get 4 friends in my place than to get then online at the same time.

This are exactly my feelings. I know that it was known a long time ago already that it doesn't have splitscreen, but I haven't really been into the Conduit threads yet so I am commenting here now because of that.

I think they are loosing a huge amount of sales potential with not having splitscreen. All the so-called Marioboys are extremely into splitscreen, as VonShigsy said this is what gives you some of the best experiences on Nintendo consoles. Now, if you are a Marioboy you probably are not too much into shooters, so Single Player and Online doesn't really make the deal for you.

I, for example, usually buy one FPS for my consoles because my friends usually want to play some if we have a game session. Last gen it was Time Splitters 2.
I don't really know about other people of course, but I could imagine there are a lot that think that way. If the Conduit had splitscreen, it'd probably have been the first choice for most of those people. Now, they will all consider buying it more than once. If it gets scores in the 90's, it will still sell to a good amount of those people, but if it scores on the 80's, that will make or break the deal for a lot. This is my expectation at least.

The other thing is the great publicity you get with a good splitscreen of course.

On the LAN thing, I strongly expect that there was a reason for Nintendo not to "allow" it (how is this legally, can Nintendo really say them they must not include LAN?). I guess that there would be some kind of disadvantage if they'd include it, later release date maybe or they'd have to cut something else. If there was no such thing, it would be stupid from Nintendo indeed.
