If the Wii is the kiddie console, then the PS3 and 360 are the overly mature consoles.

Just look at the game selections in stores! There are way to many serious manly games on the shelves. What they need are maybe 40 more titles that are like Banjo-Kazooie, Blinx, Jak or LBP, then I'd look up to them more.

As others have said a console isn't defined by it's hardware or archictecture but the software provided for the console.

-A significant percentage of the Wii's best selling games have colourful , vibrant themes to them , this may not make the Wii "kiddy" but still contributes to the idea.

-The sports multiplatform titles such as FIFA are done in a kiddie theme as opposed to the more realistic looking PS3/360 versions , this is an example of how the industry views the Wii demographic "Fifa 09 All Play"

-The Wii has a bigger percentage of titles with kiddies themes or content as opposed to the PS3/360 which have much smaller percentages.

-That's not to say a hardcore gamer wouldn't have fun but this is more to do with the perception of the Wii than the actual reality.

-The PS3 has various factors going against it being considered a " kiddy's" consoles , it's price point , functionality , colour etc. Many of the biggest marketed 360 games are hardcore Gears of War , GTA IV , Halo 3 etc so this damages the perception that it might be a "kiddy's" console.

Seriously, this is a kids and their parents machine... cute and fluffy. It also keeps my 8 yr old off my PS3.

It's purely a matter of popularity and install base. If you look at the back catalogue of PS2 games, there are likely as many - if not more - "kiddy" games, but the PS2 is never deemed a kiddy console. It's because the Wii is the most popular console right now, so developers of all kinds are going to flock to make games for it, This does unfortunately mean that it has a large amount of complete garbage, most of which is, admittedly, quite kiddy. But I think you'll find the majority of rubbish games on the PS2 are the kiddy titles. And it's because that's where the money is at. But you get a healthy balance with the PS2 and the Wii.

Don't forget, the Wii has only been on the market for 2 years - it has plenty of time to build up a massive library of all sorts of games. As it stands, it's doing quite a good job of representing a wide demographic.
