Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo: We are the engine of the gaming industry

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/94740

... "Markt analyst see us as  deciding driving power for the fast development in the market" ...

... "The demographic change gives the gaming industry new challenges, says Fakesh. 54 % of the German population is over 40. Exactly here Nintendo has reached new targed audiences. Between 2002 and 2006 the people over 40 buying a Nintendo DS doubled. With new games for the Wii and the DS the company want to reach other target audiences with more woman and older. The average age in the Nintendo world is already clear higher than on the other consoles, says Fakesch. With the Wii, the company has "With distance the best release" of all. "

Personal Opinion:

Ok, Nintendo you are successful. Don't  brag about it so much.  Pride goes before a fall. Just be successful and continue to be so.

At least Nintendo isn't up to "we can sell 5 million systems without a game" and "people will work two jobs to buy our system" levels yet. There's still a tinge of reality in that statement.

Yeah seriously. They need to quit while they're ahead.

Didn't say there is no reality. Didn't say they can't brag. Maybe my translation is bad, but in German the article sounds arrogance, and i don't like that.

From what I read it says "Market analysts see us as the driving force behind the expansion of the market."

Thats how I took it, perhaps I am misreading the translation but thats what i got from it. The entire thing seems to be talking about the expansion of the market to older age groups and in general the context of the article seems to focus on the idea that Nintendo is expanding the market.

The problem comes when Nintendo starts to trust the infallibility of the company or the brand, and loses sight of the strategy which is really creating this growth.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Lol @ this sentence: 'DS buyers over 40 years old doubled between 2004-2006...' YES... And now im supposed to be happy?!... That casual gamers are gaining more ground?!... It's just for Nintendo's heritage of AAA titles like Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Kid Icarus etc... that i keep buying their consoles... But if they make another Zelda that's easy they can count me out... For good!
