Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MP3, SMG, SMKart, SSBM all within a few months! What's N working on for 08?

30 player online F-zero :-0

wave race, pilot wings, Animal crossing, pikmin, chibi-robo... that lot will suit me till the end of the generation.

if F-zero is online then it is the most important game of the above to me, if not then pilotWiings had better come out, or at least an amazing equivalent.

A little off topic, but I'm still a little worried about 3rd parties. Considering that developing a (solid) game takes 1 year minimum, and we still hardly saw any big announcements...

My guess (and that EA spokesperson said something like that, too): It was Spring 2007 when 3rd party managers went "ZOMG teh Wii it works, quick we need some casual thingie, too!". These games are finished about now, and many of them are meh (cause they're still rushed) . So if developers realize they should place their big guns on the Wii right now, it will be 2009 until we see some of them. IF we do, for some developers may be too disappointed with their casual games' performance.

For the record, I don't say the Wii is facing a troubled future - I expect the very opposite, in fact. But I'm a little disappointed that 3rd parties seem to have missed another opportunity, and I'm sure Nintendo thinks the same way. In 2007, N gave 3rd parties a chance to sell their games. Or do you doubt that N could have made a Mario Golf or Tennis game, for example? Wii Sports leaves a lot to be desired, and that was done on purpose: It is a blueprint of games you can make on Wii.
3rd parties were too chicken-hearted, so now N goes "what the heck" and releases the first party motherload.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

I wonder if Fire Emblem will make it's way to Europe this year ... but things are a bit more complicated in Europe anyways.
However, I guess Nintendo's likely to release some Online-RPG somewhen next year

@ Androo: That's what I was thinking when I started the topic: Doesn't Nintendo waste potential? I mean, they cannot deliver enough Wii consoles now, without any big games available. Every game of the aformentioned has potential to massively boost sales, so it would be wise to spread the releases more evenly over the next year.

On the other hand, maybe they just have to release them all around christmas, to counter the onslaught of big XBox & PS3 titles.

I think they [Nintendo] have a plan. Release the big three this year toe keep the already skyrocketing momentum up till next summer. More shortages, more media rave, console will be full of good games by them, Wii could be the next PS2 + 1!

Then, next year, they'll release their other franchises for generate more and more hype while in the meantime announce new games for 09!

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.
"You'll never want to play any shooter with dual analog sticks ever again - it's THAT good.". - Gametrailers

They release the Big 3 in the first year in order to make the Wii a really sweet deal... imagine that after the big holiday season you every person that enters into a store to buy a game console will see the Wii and next to it this 3 games... i think wii doing this the Wii attracts even more people... and in addittion 1 of these 3 games would be sold with every new console... at least...

It would be cool if they made a tennis game that used the Wii Fit board and the Wiimote. You could just lean to control your movement on the court.

Surprisingly Nintendo only holds the rights to a few franchises outright. Outside of those already listed by other posters. Here is a list I compiled if someone can find more go ahead and post them. There are a couple titles in the list I would like to see get a Wii make Star Tropics was always a favorite of mine as was Mario RPG.

Metal Combat
Doshin
Star Tropics
Super Mario RPG
Marvelous
Excite Bike
Ice Climbers
Geist

You know having looked through the lists Nintendo desperately needs to develop many more franchises. Obviously they will have to and will over the coarse of the upcoming year. Though a couple of those licenses could work their way up to AAA status. With the stake Nintendo has in Monolith now they could probably resurrect the two licenses I listed. God I loved Star Tropics.

Well there are still a lots of games they could make here are some of them

Donkey Kong is a very big franchise and it should come this generation
Kirby a very cute character his franchise has proven to be great
Starfox has not played any of his games but he would probely get a new game
F-Zero His Snes game was genius and whit online it would rock
Pikmin have heard a lot of good things about this one
A new Zelda well this will be diffrent from past zelda games they say

and by Zelda is out Starcraft II will come out and then i will not need new games for a year

My dog is way beyond my ranking list than you.

One thing to remember is that many of the early 2008 titles were supposed to be holiday 07 games. The biggest games should be released during the holiday season to maximize sales. But at least for some other systems, delays have pushed their big games past December.

There is really no reason to announce 2008 holiday titles right now.

Nintendo has enough 1st party A to AAA titles to keep the Wii going through the middle of next year. That is one year from when developers realized they needed to jump on the bandwagon and gives them plenty of time to develop new titles.

That said, it would be great if Nintendo developed an Unreal-like engine that pushed the Wii graphics to the absolute limits and licensed it to anyone that wanted to develop games. That would get the third party apps coming...

I do believe that the Wii is going to need to branch out a little to be long term successful and from that I mean not every title will work with the Wiimote. Some will better fare with a traditional analog control and they need to embrace that mentality so that everything isn't forced into wii-motion so to speak.
