Where are you in the game ?

I just finished the plant area after the big collection (don't want to give any details away). I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I just took the Bathysphere to the next area and quit.

Yes I know where you are, you have done the half of the game.
I won't give you any spoiler, but continue at your time, it's getting more and more interesting.

The way they unfold the story is great... Ah, so Guy A caused that problem... What a prick. Oh, he did that because of Guy B, who did that awhile back, he's a prick, too... Ah, crap, Guy A is doing this now... So he's the real dick.

Uh oh, Guy B is up to something again... Wait a minute, THEY'RE ALL PRICKS! Dammit! I'm screwed!

:D

You have still not see the best....
And yes the way the storiy unfold is great, you have to find audio records from citizen to understand the situation, that's great !!!!

And the choices you have to do about the Littles Sisters....It's also a great concept.

I was about to buy it via steam last night, but ran into this thread:

I have a widescreen for PC gaming, and I expect to see more, not less of the screen!

It's the 21st century, for crying out loud. Widescreens are the standard nowadays, and games that are five years old fully and correctly support 16:9/16:10 aspect ratios. Why can't a game that was developed in 2007?

Even the developers said they implemented widescreen "correctly"... and it affects both the 360 and the PC versions.

No thanks, I'll pass until they fix/patch this very basic problem that should have never occurred in the first place.

If you're that worried about looking at the floors and ceiling of a closed in underwater city, go ahead and wait. I played both 4:3 and 16:9 today and the 4:3 looked weird. The angles looked funky near the top and bottom of the screen.

I'm waiting alright. So are loads of people - refusing to buy the game until something so basic as correct camera angles are patched, returning the game or cancelling their pre-orders.

The 2K forum has temporarily limited/locked new member registration because of the public reaction which has been tremendous. I've never seen anything like it before!

Last night, (about 11 hours ago from this post)  there were 14 pages of posts. Now there are over 56 (and growing) - despite 2K trying to curb the number of posts!

Besides, I easily have over two dozen games installed on my PC that I haven't completed yet. I can wait. I'm patient, and like many many others, find the camera implementation inexcusable and do expect a fix to resolve the problem.

The scores of disgruntled consumers on aforementioned forum is testament that I'm far from the only one that finds an issue with the cameras in Bioshock.

I am having no problems with widescreen resolutions on my laptop or on my Desktop.

As for my impressions of the game:

Graphics (9.5): As a couple of reviews mentioned the only graphics issues are broken glass looks like brown triangles and textures do not hold up well when you are close to them, and I would also add that a lot of surfaces look like plastic. Other than that the graphics are top notch, and when you are playing and killing stuff in full action all of the problems melt away.

Gameplay (10): At first the interface and the options for customizing your character can be a bit dizzying due to their sheer quantity and honestly it can take some getting used t. Once you get the hang of what all of the machines on the walls are for you will find yourself relying on them and remembering their locations (but an ingame map is available in case you forget). Overall I love the gameplay offerings, and I can't really think of anything bad about it other than perhaps it is too many options...but even then not really.

Sound(10): Fantastic sound quality gives the game an awesome atmosphere that really helps it suck you in. There really isn't any way to properly give the sound in this game full credit for what it does to aid the games feeling. Quite simply this game has the best sound of any game that I know of to date..bar none.

Plot (9.0): The game does a very good job with plot, I don't want to ruin it for anyone so I won't go into any detail. But suffice it to say they have done an excellent job in this department but I personally feel this aspect of the game doesn't meet the standards that the gameplay, sound, and graphics do. I think they spent an enormous amount of time on plot depth and I want it to be clear I love the depth the plot has. I am having a hard time describing the reasons I lowered the score without going into detail so I will just leave it with the statement that this is a very opinion based portion of any review. Edit: Wanted to add that after completing the game I still feel justified in my score, but I will point out that a 9 is still a very high mark.

Misc (9.5): Using this section for pointing out the things I love and hate that aren't included in the other parts. First the hate, I don't like how weak some of the weapons feel and there are a few points where the inhabitants of rapture seem immune to certain plasmids and I haven't seen a reason why yet and I am well past what many have called the halfway point. For the love, I think the AI deserves a lot of credit in this game, its not the best I have seen before but given the complexity of the game I feel the level this AI is at across the board warrants more recognition then it has gotten. I also wanted to make note that I adore the way the gun modifications aren't just "poof your gun is better" but there is an explanation for the mod and an accompanying visual attached to your gun that looks fantastic and gives a real sense of evolution that is pretty hard to describe other than to say its awesome!

Final Score: **9.6** - This game definitely deserves a spot in the top 5 video games of all time and I think it has a lot of potential for changing the way developers think about the FPS genre and we may see quite a few new games in this area soon. I don't think it really innovates per se, but it definitely is a culimination of a lot of good ideas that have been in gaming for a long time and have been brought together wonderfully. Anyone not sure if they will like the game because of its FPS roots should try the demo and get a feel for the game, I think you will find some of the plasmids make it much less of a twitch gameplay type shooter and much more of a strategic battle of wits where your imagination is your limit and an extremely rewarding experience is the result of your hard work.

PS - I take the perspective of each game starts out as a ten and problems slowly chip away so if it seems I make a lot of complaints about smaller issues please weigh that against the score and realize that with how good the game is I feel I have to justify lowering the score rather than the other way around.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I got the limited edition in the morning and I played it for a while earlier in the day. I'm about to get back on there in a few minutes.

This game is so awesome I am crawling through it at an incredibly slow pace so I can just take everything in...

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

got it this morning and played a little bit before work, wow, im just amazed

Seriously ive seen very few games who can match this, let alone beat it.

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Color me unimpressed with the PC demo.

Games like this, Lost Odyssey, and Mass Effect make me want a 360. Maybe the next time the price drops if the hardware is proven to be solid. I refuse to buy a faulty console, which I don't think is an unreasonable demand.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
