Forums - Gaming Discussion - Eternal Sonata worth $39.97?

I've been waiting for this game to get a price drop at my favorite retailer (amazon.com) and it finally did. However I haven't heard exceptional praise for it so I'm not sure whether to wait for a further drop to $30/$20 or to just take the plunge now. Note that I'm speaking of the ps3 version.

What do you guys who've played the game think?

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Unless you are really jonesing for an RPG fix I would advise to wait until it is cheaper. The game is extremely average, which can be enjoyable for a JRPG fan, but it also has some extremely annoying moments. The plot is really dumbed down at points and confusing as hell at others, the gameplay is fun but runs into issues with the fixed camera, and music is nice but the visuals are pretty good at best.

Thanks for the tip man. I'm not jonesing for a jrpg fix so I'll just wait instead. i was getting that feeling too. I bought VC shortly after it's launch because of the word of mouth and haven't regretted it one bit. On the other hand, I haven't read any praise for this anywhere.

well strangely some reviewers seem to like it, such as IGN, but I disagree with their view on the game. But if you would like a more positive outlook on ES then I suggest checking them out.

Well, I gave the demo a shot and wasn't too impressed anyway. i wanted to still give the game a shot because I wasn't impressed by VC's demo either but I take word of mouth from those who've actually played games over "reviewers" anyday so IGN won't convince me one bit.

It has great graphics, environments, and character design. It also runs very smoothly (which is a big issue with other JRPGs).

The issue is the gameplay, story, and characters are very basic. In each dungeon you pretty much fight the same battle over and over (usually between 20-40 times) until you get to the boss.

All the background info about Chopin feels more at place on the history channel, I'm not sure what the developers were thinking with a lot of their choices.

ive seen the 360 version used at blockbuster for 35. and im not paying that. the ps3 version is supposed to have a lot more stuff in it, so .... maybe?

i got the 360 version back when it was first released. although i didn't hate the game, it certainly was one of the more forgettable games i've played this gen. like torillian said, unless you really need to play an RPG now i wouldn't bother with it. there are plenty of better games out imo.

When you describe it that way, it makes me not want the game at all lol. Even Enchanted Arms wasn't that boring. My only qualms with Enchanted Arms was over-gayness but that ended rather quickly. Considering the game was $20, I had no other issues with it.

I'm also waited for a more tempting price drop. $30 is the hot spot for me.
