HDDs have a failure rate above 1% per year, and every PS3 has a HDD. Does this simple fact compute?

 

So why is it that every major retailer, and most gaming journalism blogs/sites/magazines/etc have said that it defect rate is under 1%?

Some of those are a little old...but I doubt a low failure rate would go UP after time has passed. So...if what you've crocked up is true, then why is it that the PS3 fail rate is STILL so low?

 

 

Because they aren't reporting anything, they are just pass BS along the chain.

There are several people on this forum even who have had multiple failures of their PS3s and im one of them.

I would imagine that if SCE wasn't consolidated so heavily that the PS brand would have faded by now, but then again, if that was the case I'm sure they wouldn't have taken such a large risk on loans alone.

Of course that's assuming that the PS3 was considered heavily a risk, some others seem to believe that Sony considered the market share to be theirs essentially for as long as they wanted it.

When it comes down to it, PS3 is much more similar to the Sega Saturn, just because of the hardware and software reasons, but again consolidation of those losses isn't something Sega had, so no PS3 isn't going anywhere in the forseeable future.

I say the PS3 will be on the market at least four times as long as the DreamCast, and will sell at least five times as many consoles, if not six.

What the hell are you talking about? The Dreamcast is a legend. Of course it isn't on the Dreamcast's path.*

Now, seriously, it won't. Even Sega (which was peanuts at the time compared to Sony) could afford one blunder (financially speaking). If anything, it'll walk the path of the Saturn - a black console fitted with an unnecessarily complicated architecture that eventually underperformed compared to its predecessors even though it delivered some unique games.

Wether Sony's next will be the company's Dreamcast-equivalent or not it is too far for anyone here to speculate about.

*footnote: one of the reasons the Dreamcast became a Legend is because it was Sega's final effort; the PS3 won't be Sony's final effort.
