Forums - Gaming Discussion - You love RPGs, don't own a PS3 or PSP, and...

I'm in the other boat. There were a TON of great RPG's that I missed out on with the PS1, and those that I got to play, I want to play again. I bought Wild Arms the day it came out on the PSN, and the fact that those games work on my PSP is just godlike. I can move the save data back and forth between my PSP and PS3 and play any which way I feel like.

At $7 you'd be a fool to miss out on some of the best rpg's ever created, plus, as awkward as it is, PS1 games LOOK fantastic on the PSP :P Sadly in terms of graphics they look (to me) sooooooooooo much better than anything I've ever seen on the DS.

And I don't know what's wrong with me, maybe I have become a graphics whore or something, but there is literally nothing on the DS list that looks remotely interesting >_>;;; I keep hearing about what a "powerhouse" the handheld is, but everything on it just looks so terrible to me >

I also missed some stuff like recently announced '30 second Heroes' from Marvelous, but you get the point - there's a lot of quality RPGs coming to PSP in near future.

The PSP's lineup is respectable, but do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Yes, I do. Do you?

I do not get why PS3 is mentioned in a RPG thread, its next gen offerings have failed, both WKC and Demon Soul are the worst scoring next gen RPGs ever in Japan

Also has absolutly nothing to anticipate besides FF13vs, which will 99% come to 360

The PS3 can play any PS1 RPG in existance, unlike the X360 and Wii.  Get it now?  Did you read the first post?

But I could play any PS1 and PS2 RPG on my PS1 or PS2 for nothing, or for a small fraction of the PS3's price. I don't get the point being argued either, how does the PS3 being able to play PS1 RPG's help it's case when the most likely PS3 customer probably owns a PS2 that could do the same thing?

Keep in mind that many of these old PS1 RPGs cost a good $40 (or even $100, in the case of games like Suikoden II) to purchase used in CD form, and in many cases the discs are near unusable.  $6 is a steal for them, if you don't own them already.

I guess I was looking at things from my perspective. I pretty much own every good PS1 RPG I'm interested in, so the availability of it on PSN for the PS3 means nothing to me. But most ppl don't own all those games.

I thought you were talking about the PSP.

Like I said, I can buy them for the PS2.

Well, you can play PS1 games from the PSP. (games for only $7!)

Did you read the OP? He said if they brought these downloadable titles, how could you resist the classics?

...those aren't the classics. Those might be the cult-classics. The classics usually involve names like Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy in them, and they are amongst the best games of all time.

Calling those games cult classics and then naming Vagrant Story as a classic is silly.  Your metric for a classic definitely can't be sales (Suikoden 2 and I bet a few others beat Vagrant nicely) and it's definitely not quality (Suikoden II wins there too IMO).

In the end, it's just another case of rose-colored colored glasses and an "I know better than you" attitude.

Sony doesn't care about the psp anymore. their recent update only being premium wallpapers.. I can safely say that. Some ps1 games, but not many good ones.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

He seems to do that a lot.

He and Khuttra are having at it in the Bayonetta thread.

For kicks, I updated the OP with all the single-disc PS1 RPGs I can think of, including Vagrant Story, just for Zenfolder. =)  I think Zen is upset because I listed the first two Tales titles to make it to the US there -- he probably hasn't played them, and is perhaps upset that they will never come to the 360 or Wii. ;)  He lives and breathes Tales, from what I gather from his posts.

I don't think there are any instances of multi-disc games on PSN -- someone said something about "Command & Conquer" but... you lost me with that one. PC RTS what? If there was a PS1 version, I don't see it on PSN.

In any case, I added a bunch to the OP. I find it hard to believe all the "I own em all" posts, given the size of the list there... but I suppose that RPGs are relatively niche titles that aren't going to drive many people into purchasing a PSP/PS3, as it did for me with the PSP.

The PS1 clearly beats the socks off the SNES, N64, Genesis, etc. combined when talking RPGs. The only way you will ever get to experience these titles, if you missed them the first time, is via PSN -- unless you buy a PS2 and pay a small fortune for each used disc title on that list.

Go on, Zen.  Call some of the new ones I added "cult classics" too.  LoL.

PSP And DS is all you need for RPG's of anykind (Mainly J though) because its obvious that the PSP and DS will always have more JRPG's then any 3 of the consoles.

More does not equal better, i will stick to less but next gen ones on my 360

Not that 40+ RPGs that 360 has are ... few by any stretch of the imagination Are you sure DS or PSP have more ?

@ Groucho

I've always heard that the king of RPGs was the SNES.
