Forums - Sony Discussion - Yakuza 3 needs more than a 5GB installation

KylieDog said:
It is an insignificant thing though. So good or bad it shouldn't matter.

I don't know why it is even discussed, it would like be going to every thread about any 360 game and saying "Can't install that on an arcade model". There is no point.

I disagree... I think this should be talked about more often. I mean mandatory installs are a pain in the @$$.

With the Arcade 360, you have no space to worry about taking up not to mention NO mandatory installs, but only good old fashion (optional installs)

With the 20gig/40gig PS3 owners, you have space that is being lost and you can not do anything about it.. but to delete installed games, or install larger HD's. I know a couple people that think they spent to much money on the PS3 to walk up to it with a screw driver and change hardware.

So much for the good old days of just pop-in and play.

It's now  = pop-in... wait... play.

And soon  = pop-in...delete(make room)... wait.... play.

If the PS3 hard-drive was user swappable and easy like the Xbox 360 this wouldn't be such an issue for 20/40gb PS3 owners.

Before people cry at me, most people do not have a set of precision screw-drivers nor the willingness to open up their console. If they did they would have probably not bought the PS3 in the first place -> PC gamers! Or whatever.

Squill, the hard drive is easy, squeasy to swap out and is much more cost effective.

Not compared to the Xbox 360 120GB upgrade.

Compared to upgrading to a 60GB is wasn't. You can buy 500 GB hard drive for the price of a 120GB 360 drive.

Once you consider time = money it costs more to upgrade the PS3. Consider data transfer, aquiring the knowledge and tools and carrying it out and it adds up to a significant cost.

Tease.

Whats the big deal? it's not like you wont be able to play the game, if there was no installs then people would be complaining about how slow the load screens are...theres just no pleasing everyone.

How can you ask "Whats the big deal" with mandatory installs?

Obviously it's a problem for some people...

You have to install the games that have "mandatory" installs, no way around it, you have to do it, and lose HD space while doing it..

so the HUGE Blu-Ray Disc Space almost means nothing.. I mean all the space of the BR and then you have to take up space on the HD?  really... and you don't see a problem with that?

If it was "Optional" you would not be reading this thread right now.

Outside of a screwdriver and USB drive, what do you need?

And you still have to wait the time for Microsoft the data transfer kit. (although it is free, just takes about 7-10 days to get to you)

I'm just saying it's not that big of deal to swap a PS3 hard drive and neither is it to swap a 360 one.

Time to do the exchage: $$

Time to transfer the information: $$

Must have/purchase a precision screw-driver set: $$

Its comparing something which takes 1/4 the time for the average person and time = money.

IIRC the 120GB HDDs come with the required transfer cable.

1. You have multiple games you are looking to play and return to.  You get stuck and decide to put it away awhile, and then return to it.  Do this for 5 or 6 games, and you could end up eating up at least 25% of your harddrive storage for that.

2. You will play through a game once and only once.  You sit through a long install process that can be used for gaming.

3. You rent games, and want to see what the game is like to decide.  If you don't have to install, you then get to start faster and play.

Again, OPTIONAL is a GREAT feature.  If you REQUIRE it, then what?

Wow - demo's must really bug you then.

Can you imagine the suffering you have to endure and the pain of having to first download something (for shame!) and then...mandatory install time! how awful! with only 20GB (if you have a HDD) you'll soon run out of space, and if you only play it once, but want to come back to try it again...all that valuble HDD realestate has been taken up with this binary bullshit!

If I were like you, I'd need to be on anti-depressants, becase if small things like this bug me, there's a bigger problem afoot than a games console.

same applies for points 1 and 2.

It might, but my 60GB didn't come with one. I had to order one from MS.

Xbox 360 users don't have to install things AFAIK.

Yes but it's not like every game has mandatory installs, out of the 10 games I own only 2 had mandatory installs, one of the games took like 2 mins to install and the other was like 5 mins? So whats the big deal!? I have the 60 GB version and I still have 22 GB left on it, and I have a bunch of movies, alot of songs, countless demos, and I still have plenty of GB left over. So space isn't an issue. Most of the people now how the 80 GB version anyway so there better off then me.
