The Wii is tracking much higher in the rest of the world. So using this same logic, the Wii will obliterate all global sales records despite lower Japan sales.

Yeah, the year on year comparisons are a little deceiving, because of major software releases in Q1 of last year around this point in time. Still, it's unquestionable that Wii hardware sales have dropped off in Japan. Nintendo hasn't done anything to the entry model in the past 26 months there; looks like it's time for Wii colors, game bundles, or even a price reduction. (You know, the little things Sony has been doing relentlessly since launch with its hardware...) I think it's inevitable we'll see something along those lines to spur sales within the next two months.

Aside from 360 everything is down in Japan. And a 3000 increase for 360 isn't necessarily representative of anything good. Will Wii go below 10k. Possibly in the dead summer months but Monster Hunter 3, whenever it does release, should do some magic for Wii in Japan this year just like FFXIII will do for PS3.

The PS3 is headed back to its old area of 8-12k, which means that the Wii will hover around 20-30K until more software comes around which is due next month anyhow, then boost back into the 50K range.

But man if the Wii sales ever went below 10k in Japan then that would just be bad for the market in general. I mean 360 isn't going to take leadership there and PS3 won't just all of a sudden start replacing all Wii sales. Imagine weeks where the console sales of all 3 are below that of 20k? Something is definitely wrong in Japan right now. Hopefully FFXIII and MH3 will fix that this year.
