Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Satoru Iwata to deliver GDC 2009 keynote

When is GDC09?

Around the Network

March 23-27.

There should be something of interest, especially this year when Nintendo has so much going for it. I mean, even last year they used GDC as a venue to show off WiiWare before it's launch, as well as to show off the Pay to Play model.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

This is the first big event in gaming since their stinker of an E3 (besides their October Conference), and even at the time it was pretty clear they know they screwed the pooch. While it'll definitely be technology-related, I think they'll announce a couple of big games (that use Motion+).

Also, isn't The Conduit using a 'modified version' of Friend Codes? If so, maybe they'll show that, too.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

outcast's avatar says yes but his words say F--- O--

on topic, Iwata's actually pretty cool, for a business man

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Maybe they will Announce Star Fox is in development by once thought dead factor 5????

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Cool I wonder if he will show any new games we dont know about.(secretly hopes he shows off what retro studios is doing)

Do companies normally announce games at the GDC? I thought that it was mostly about design theory.

Games oftentimes squeeze into the side of all the happenings around GDC, and sometimes make somewhat prominent appearances. GDC is one of those events where anything can happen. I wouldn't go into it expecting some amazing announcements for games though, the chances of being let down are fairly high. Besides, if you don't expect an amazing announcement, and they do make one, that just makes it all the more exciting.

Given that there's a keynote, I expect them to talk about some new game design theory being incorporated into one of their games, but not necessarily the game itself. The patent from a while back coming up would be interesting...
