Satoru Iwata to deliver GDC 2009 keynote

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will be putting his oratorical skills to the test, delivering a keynote entitled "Discovering New Development Opportunities" at this year's Game Developers Conference. There are no other details provided, and trying to discern any surprise announcements based on that speech title is pretty much a fruitless endeavor.

Iwata last gave a GDC keynote in 2006, when he showed Brain Age and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Company man Miyamoto gave the 2007 speech and revealed ... the Everybody Votes Channel. As for last year, the House of Mario's presence was limited to a handful of sessions. Get your bingo cards ready, Iwata's keynote is set for Monday, March 25 at 9 a.m. PST (that's noon, Joystiq Standard Time).

Typically, GDC is meant to showcase new technology.  With that in mind, I hope they show off Motion+ and some new games supporting it!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Wow this is the most uninteresting news I've ever heard.

Well done.

Motion+ related?

You're making wonderful progress in dispelling your image as a troll.

Or as something life in general wants to recognize as something similar.

Anyways will probably just show off motion plus and things like that.  I doubt anything too huge will come out of this at least from Ninty's keynote.  Mainly for new technology, as someone said before.

Anyone interested in the business of videogames ought to hang on Iwata's every word.

Yes, it will probably be about Motion + with a little bit about DSi.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

i wonder if it would be relativly easy to become a developer of dsiware games? would the process be easier or about the same as for wiiware licensing?

I realy hope that Nintendo will announce some new games (Zelda!!!!!).
But I think he will only hype WM+, show something new of Wii Sports Resort which should be released in April and give us a western release date for DSi as well as some talk about DSiWare.

Outcast is finally banned.

So, wait--Outcast is an out... never mind XD

Unfortunately, he'll be back. But let's not give him any more mention in this thread than we already have, eh?

I'm hoping Iwata goes a bit more into detail about Motion+ as well, and perhaps tells us more about a storage solution, but since the keynote isn't supposed to be about unveiling your company's new products I'm hoping he gives us a bit more insight into what Nintendo envisions regarding the bridge titles. I want to hear how they intend to continue the disruption process, how they plan on upstreaming new gamers, and most importantly how they intend to morph their traditional titles.

In all honesty, I'd find that speech infinitely more interesting than anything about Motion+. But I'm also skeptical that they'll pull the curtain back all that much. :-/
