Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Let's Talk About Zelda Games in the Zelda Mega Thread

I was going to start a thread about this but then found this one. I apologize if this has been brought up already, so here we go:

Zelda fans are divided in whether they prefer the more realistic graphics of Twilight Princess or the cell-shaded graphics of Windwaker. Personally, I love both graphics and both games but when asked how I would like the next Zelda game to be, I would go with the more realistic graphics, as would a lot of you. But then I thought....Why Chose? Why can't we have both? A lot of Zelda games have a regular world and a dark world such as A Link to the Past and Twilight Princess. Woudn't it be awesome if you could have the realistic graphics and then in the game an alternate world would could be not darker, but rather cell shaded. We could get the best of both worlds and have a massive universe to play in.

What is everyone's thought on this?

You.... you mean one part of the game being the dark, gritty Twilight Princess style with the other being bright and cel-shaded ala Wind Waker?

I would like that very, very much. I wonder if it would be difficult to do, though.

the new skip puzzle option Nintendo made will make the most epic Zelda in the world(oh and little kids will also enjoy it). I'm guessing they made it(the patent thingy) was especially for Zelda which probably means new Zelda 2009-2011.

If that patent actually was for Zelda...I'm worried Ninty is taking the wrong direction with the series. By that I mean they should not be trying to make the game easier when it already is TOO easy. They need to keep it interesting for hardcore fans who have played all the Zelda games. At least they could add a difficulty level that way newcomers won't have a problem and hardcore fans can have a challenge and enjoy the game as well.

I haven't had a chance to read what has been discussed so far so I will just cover the basics. My favorite Zelda is A Link to the Past, Ocarina did the most for gaming but I like Majora's Mask more, the time line is hard to figure out but I have my ideas on how they fit, and my least favorite is Zelda II (only played Phantom Hourglass and Minish Cap out of the portable games.)

That could be done, I think, but I don't know how it would go over with the people playing the game. The "realistic" look of Twilight Princess was very much an effort to appeal to the western audience after TWW failed to live up to expectations. If the new game suddenly went "kiddy"... Well, I doubt they'd risk that. I personally think they should give the dual world trope a rest, as well.

Realistically, I expect Zelda Wii to have a visual style similar to TP - perhaps it will even be a sequel. I didn't care much for TP's character design so I hope I am wrong, but that's what I expect. What I would like is a 'dark', less deformed cel-shaded style, but there's not much chance of that, I'm afraid. Nintendo seems stuck with the TWW style for their artsy games, which is a shame because it's already been done so many times (even if it worked great in PH and TMC).

Oh, and that patent won't make the game any easier provided you have the strenght of will to not cheat if you do get stuck, in which case you probably would want it anyway.

I would like to hear some thoughts on Four Swords Adventures for the GCN. I really liked that game and it was something my sisters enjoyed also. So I was wondering what other gamers thought about it.

I'm not going to make any particular guess as to the visual style of Zelda Wii - I don't expect a direct sequel, and I certainly don't expect a spiritual one, given that Twilight Princess was supposed to be the last of its kind.

I was not aware that Wind Waker had failed to meet expectations, given that it sold roughly on par with Link to the Past.

LNRT:

Alright. Four Swords Adventures is awesome. It's nothing special graphically - which is a shame, IMO. Wario Land showed how a modern 2D game on a console should look - but it has excellent gameplay, and is fairly difficult to boot.

Actually, I think that patent was partially inspired by FSA, since the ability chose "chapters" (awesome function, by the way) and learn from others, who could help you if you were stuck, were key elements of that game. I know I played FSA more than I played Twilight Princess, which I think says a lot. It's just got a ton of replayability.

I didn't like it as much as TMC, but then TMC is my favourite 2D Zelda. Both made me wish for more FS games, though.

Maybe, but I think they could make a new kind of game and still make it a sequel - like they did with PH. Also, Aonuma still wants to better OoT, and as long as he has his mind set on the past, I wonder how original his games will be.

About TWW, I remember Nintendo saying they had expected more from TWW, particularly in Japan. Aonuma apparently considered leaving Nintendo because of it until Miyamoto set him straight. Twilight Princess' sales also dissapointed Miyamoto, but that was a while ago, and the game has continued selling, so who knows what he thinks today.
