Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: changes coming to the Xbox 360 Core sku

The problem isn't the concept that it's gimped. The problem is that Microsoft being Microsoft are almost certainly going to start breaking their own rules and require that the user has a hard drive, thus screwing the Core user. Moreover, the deal Microsoft's been offering makes it an insult to those with less money. For a $100 saving, now reduced to $70 (or was it $80?), the user loses the ability to save games, loses the ability to download games, loses the ability to go online at all, loses the HD cables, loses the ability to play Xbox1 games and loses wireless controlers. Oh, and the chrome finish, as if to add insult. It's a lot to lose for a saving on what is still a more expensive machine than Wii.

To attain even basic functionality (I mean, who really plays games without having some form of save at all?) the user absolutely MUST buy a memory card, reducing the price differential from $70 to $30 - $40. This is getting so ridiculously unfavourable for the consumer that those who are strapped for cash are more likely to give up on the whole affair or buy something cheaper rather than try to manage with the Core.

bugmenot FTW!!!

Way to go buddy! you win the "I just replied without reading the post" award!!

The new SKU comes with a 256mb memory card included and a wireless controler.

So I guess it now attained "basic functionality".

Nope, I'm referring to the actual price cut. As in what's happened in this plane of reality. The Core version you're referring to is still a rumor. As in not yet in this region of the multiverse. If happens then great. It will only encourage Microsoft to make large memory mandatory. Until Microsoft makes the announcement though, I'll hold off on declaring it a victory. Besides, this rumor applies to Europe where the Core is substantially more expensive. We better be getting something extra.

OK, it appears this rumor's got more weight than I thought. It's hit the US as well. I guess I was wrong and I'm sorry. The Core user will now be less screwed.

More changes? Ok the package is good, a far more attractive offer, although I don't really know why HDMI is included if the premium doesn't have it.

We just got a price cut in the UK as well, it just seems a bit confusing to offer so many options and price cuts on what I'm sure most people would like to be a simple purchase, I'm many thinking of occaisional gamers and those buying it as a present here.

The Core wouldn't be a problem if people actually bought it. Everyone looks at it as the "gimped" system and it does not significantly increase MS's market penetration. All it does it limit the potential of the two models that actually sell, the Premium and the Elite.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
