Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The lack of an ethernet port on the Wii is a ridiculous omission.

I'd say the wii one is worse... simply because wired internet is always possible and is the regular standard. Even if the masses are switching over.

So whats more Ridiculous?? No WiFi on the 360 or no ethernet on the Wii?

I always the 360 felt "old".  No wi-fi.  No slot loading drive.

Ive got to go with no ethernet, there are many negatives to wifi, and ive always felt unless your building a handhelp/portable wifi is a user add option. where as no ethernet on a home unit, much like it not being on a home pc is well a very very poor design choice, there are just too many things ethernet is good for... and usb is no substitute.... you here me apple! oh wait i got off topic... yea bad design decision but not a fatal one ....

also what happened to that promised wii with dvd capacity

Of course, Wi-fi is far more useful for 90% of the population so you should be looking at MS.

I agree with the OP. My PS3 AND 360 are wired for onlie. I'd give ANYTHING for my Wii to be wired.......except for $10, apparently.

I understand dougsdad. Then again I have met way to many common people that don't even know what a ethernet it. The common person is just very unknowledgable about computers in general. So rather than confuse people with an ethernet or expect people to run 30ft of cord to a console they removed those problems with the WiFi.

The thing is that Ethernet is like SD while WiFi is like HD. You don't seem to like the Wii as SD(as mentioned elsewhere). Seems silly that someone who prefers upstream didn't get a WiFi router till last xmas. I have an SD TV, but have had a WiFi router for 4 years.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

see compatibility list here: http://www.wiili.org/index.php/Wii_ethernet_adapter

select a compatible one to buy here (yes they are legit): http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.usb%20ethernet

Personaly i perfer the Wiis lack of Ethernet over the 360s lack of Wi-Fi, because if i want my Wii hardwired, all i need is $20, if i want my 360 wireless, ill dish out $80. In fact i think its more than that, im not sure.

Aside from general Windows usage and browsing, that's me.  I don't know dick about the hardware.  I'm just using the equipment that Verizon sent me.
