Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why should i get a Wii ?

If you need to be "convinced", you probably shouldn't buy one. If you enjoy original IP or unique game design, the Wii is the best console for that. If you enjoy any Nintendo games, the Wii has and will continue to give classic Nintendo franchises. Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Brawl, and Metroid Prime 3 are the best examples of this, and of course there is a vast array of VC and GC games you can play on it too.

However, if you just play popular FPS and RPG games, the Wii either has no or limited version of those games. This is unlikely to change, and if it does then wait until then to buy one.

If you want to buy a Wii, I would say get a DS first: it has a greater balance between "FPS/RPG core", Nintendo and "casual" games so you can try all of the experiences. There WILL be something for you on the DS whereas the Wii is a little more risky if you don't like Nintendo or casual games.

Here's why you should buy a Wii:
1. No More Heroes(Action) & MadWorld (Action/ Fighter)
2. Okami/ Zelda (Action/ Adventure)
3. Boom Blox/ Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Puzzle)
4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Fighter)
5. Muramasa: The Demon Blade/ Arc Rise Fantasia (RPG)
6. Mario Kart Wii (Racer)
7. The Conduit & Call of Duty: World at War (FPS)
8. Super Mario Galaxy & De Blob (Platformers)
9. Pikmin series/ Little King's Story (Sim)
10. Shaun White Snowboarding/ Punch-out (Sports)

Bottomline: The Wii has a lot of great games in a lot of different genres.

When I first heard about the Wii, I had high expectations. Buzz was strong, sales were booming, and shortages were so bad, i had fly abroad just to get my Wii.
And yet after getting back home and switching it on, I immediately thought, hey, this is really fun. I think that is why the Wii keeps selling. Even after going through all the trouble of waiting hours in line in order to get the Wii, people come home, start to play, and truly think, well yes, it was worth the trouble I went through to get it.

If you have played games on the Wii before, and just don't understand why the console is doing so well, i suggest you don't get a Wii. Otherwise, give Wii Sports a try with a couple of friends. If you're not immediately fascinated by the potential of what Nintendo has put together, even taking into account the flaws in the game, the Wii is not for you.
If on the other hand, you have the same instantaneous reaction as most gamers and non gamers have had after trying out a Wii for the first time, you will probably end up buying it within as couple of months of first playing it.

I've always been a PC gamer so I'm used to the supposed "HD" graphics that the new HD console gamers are so excited over since PC gamers have that that luxury for way longer than console gamers, so why did I get a Wii? I can honestly tell you that when I play Wii games, I actually smile more often, weird eh? other than that, Wii has great 1st and 3rd party support from Japan which is always what I look for most in a console, because duh, I'm a PC gamer. If you have a 360 or a PS3 already, pick up a Wii anyways, it's not nearly as kiddie as people think, that's all just marketing, just because it's a weaker console, it doesn't mean the games are any less deep when the developers are good. Wii has too many shovelwares due to it's success, so you just have to pick out your games carefully, and there are many more new, and good games coming, it's a good investment imo.

You nailed it my friend. I too am primarily a PC gamer, and to me getting the Wii was a no brainer, I already have the "best" HD console, and while the PC has great controls, the Wii has immersion, and fun for groups. Now I'm not bashing the PS360, they a certainly a good deal if you want HD cheaper than a PC, but to me I want both the best graphics and the best control which is my Wii and my PC. If you already own an HD system get a Wii if you can afford it. Worst case scenario you can always turn around and sell it at cost on eBay. So you really lose nothing by giving it a shot.

Because chicks dig the Wii, obviously.

the only games i play on my wii is wii sports and zack and wiki. so if that doesn't interest you...

but in all honesty, wii motion plus will be the reason to try out the wii. the games coming out this year will hopefully take advantage of this new hardware, and churn out some incredible titles. Wii Sports 2 will be awesome.

besides, NMH2 will no doubt use WM+. that alone should get you hyped.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda title ever made.

Well, that and you can make mii versions of the hot chicks and stare at them instead.

(Just Kidding)

You should buy it because it has great games that can only be played on the Wii. It also gives you access to tons of older games that you may have never had a chance to play.
