Kodu (originally named Boku); an upcoming Xbox Live Community game will allow anyone to build their own personal playground with ease. Ever since it was announced, people have compared it to Sony’s big hit LittleBigPlanet. They both are platformers and seem to have similar characteristics but the question is; will Kodu be Microsoft’s answer to LittleBigPlanet?
Microsoft showed a walkthrough of their new title, Kodu, at CES 09 (located below) showing what the game is all about and how it will play. This definitely has a look and feel to LittleBigPlanet and is looking to be Microsoft’s version of this hit title. But will it be better or be able to compete with LittleBigPlanet? The answer to this question is NO. From what they showed at CES 09, I am not impressed at all with it, as it is very similar to many of the PC games like Civilization and Sim Theme Park with a cartoony and childish look to it. LittleBigPlanet is a fully blown out game with single player and a very nice online set up. There are endless possibilities of how you can customize your own sackboy who you actually can interact with in the level. In Kodu, you control a UFO-looking object to go around and customize your level. Also, Kodu looks much more complicated to design levels with and is not something that anyone could take advantage of like in LittleBigPlanet. There is yet to be much more info released by Microsoft on Kodu but we all will be able to see what this game is all about when it hits Xbox Live this year.
