Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN: White Knight Chronicles is part of a planned trilogy?

Seeing as this is one of my most eagerly awaited title of 09 I naturally gobbled up every piece of information I could find, so when IGN did an extended playtest, I devour their preview with relish.

One note that caught my attention in particular was the conclusion:

...here is something about White Knight Chronicles that is compelling enough to see you through to the end. You'll be left with memories of faraway places, exotic races, and an online community that, so far at least, is welcoming and friendly. And that's just the beginning: White Knight Chronicles is just the first part of a planned trilogy which will eventually encompass over a hundred hours of gaming. It's a pretty decent start.

Now I am no omniscient, but I am fairly certainly that I’ve never heard of WKC being part of a trilogy, and considering Level-5 have stated previously that they will be focusing their effort on the Wii and handhelds after WKC I doubt it will occur anytime soon.

IGN threw the last line as if it was a given fact, so perhaps this was information that is very dated (E3 06?) or just plain incorrect. Whatever the case, I am sure any plans for sequel to this game will be based largely on its reception; it would be interesting to see how they approach this.

Considering the online aspect, there is a plethora of avenue that L5 can pursue for any sequels or even major DLC expansions ala Shivering Isle.

Let’s hope IGN is right.

Level 5 said that WKC was intended to be a series. I don't remember where I read it but I know they said it.

@Riachu

Is this old news? I've been following WKC fairly avidly since I've first heard of it at the end of 07.

Hmm.

Very interesting.

Although, if SMT and Persona could sequels with its sales, I'm sure Sony would be happy to continue the series if it sold decently in the US.

very cool, maybe if they make a sequel . they could follow "age of conan" ideas and make the online part a full blown mmorpg game and keep the offline part just the way it is.

SMT and Persona don't need to be million sellers to make a profit because they are low budget games(not a bad thing if game design is good enough)

Odd, I have somehow missed this, couldn't even google anything...

Anyways, again lets hope that sequals aren't ruled out. Its proven to be a moderate success in Japan but Western reception of this game will now be critical.

@ mibuokami )

I'm pretty sure they said it in that LEVEL 5 event in august(?) prior to the TGS 08, that WKC: "Inishie no Kodou" is the first entry of a series of WKC games.

And you think that WKC has to sell a million to make a profit?
