OMG how many times must it be said, PS2 is not a 10 year console! It hasn't been out that long yet and if it was a 10 year console why release the PS3?!

I hope Sony put to rest the PS3 as a 10 year console cause that is asking for even more trouble in the future.

No. The 10 yr thing is just marketing BS. The average PS has a 5 yr lifespan with extended support. Think of it like the average Microsoft software product lifecyle way of doing things (support, new software, extended support, end of life.

PS1 - 1994

PS2- 2000

 

Isn't that 6 years with extended support? And what's wrong with having more than one console on the market?

The PSP has been around a while with terrible support. The Playstation 2 has been round less that 10 year but true support with high end exclusives end back in 2006. It only get multi-plateform releases.  PS3 could be around 10 years but I doubt it will be supported by third parties.

 

Unlike the PS3 the PSP actually sells hardware.

Well Sony did open up the PS2 for third-world country dev and open source.
