Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who are the five biggest publishers?

I'm confused, so it's either..

Nintendo
EA
Activision/Blizzard
Ubisoft
Sony Computer Entertainment

or..

EA
Activision/Blizzard
Ubisoft
Sony Computer Entertainment
Take 2

I belive I've confused myself.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Around the Network

1.Nintendo
2.EA
3.Activision
4.Sega
5.Capcom

How can you have Sony but miss Nintendo? Are you talking about profitability or who produces the most? By profitability it'd be something like:

Nintendo
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
EA
Activision
Ubisoft
Sony (or maybe Capcom/THQ/MS/Sega)

EA is unprofitable right now (...), so they'd be below Ubisoft but above Sony.

And in terms of size, I think Activision is first, but I'm not sure who's after that, especially in light of all these layoffs.

Yeah, I'm thinking revenue but I did say profit.  Doesn't matter the OP was wondering who has the biggest staff.   In which case although Nintendo's staff gives the biggest bang for the buck, sizewise they aren't as big as many Western developers.    MS must have a really small staff now and Sony would be in top 5 for sure.    Guess size really doesn't matter.

Using Wikipedia numbers (revenue 2006, 2007 or 2008):

1. Nintendo
2. Activision/Blizzard + Activision combined rufly $5 billion? (they seem to be split in 2 publishers/divisions)
3. EA - $4.665 billion
4. Konami - rufly $3 billion
5. SEGA - rufly $2-3 billion (another publisher split in 2 divisions)
6. Square Enix - rufly $2 billion
7. Ubisoft - rufly $1.5 billion
8. Capcom - rufly $1 billion
9. THQ - $1 billion
10. Take-Two - $1 billion

I don't know where to put Sony and MS in this though.

Around the Network

Nintendo
Electronic Arts
Vivendi Games
Ubisoft
Sony Computer Entertainment.

These are the biggest publishers as defined by the industry. It is a combination of games released, revenue, employees, etc.

Good news Everyone!

I've invented a device which makes you read this in your head, in my voice!

Yeah in term of revenue, profit, game published, and top selling games nintendo been holding that record for years even longer than 2006.  as far as staff is concern i dont know.  the majority of nintendo staff are devoted to making games vs other studio which not all their staff is for gaming like branching out into other things.

Guys....he's talking about with the amount of employees...i think.

This is a tough question since its hard to tell how much of that % of staff is in gaming.  if talking overall staff than sony or ms takes the cake, but in term of gaming staff thats different and hard to tell.

Ok I don't think I've made myself clear so let's split this.

Which are the biggest publishers in terms of staff and the biggest publishers in terms of revenue?

Yeah, staff is near impossible to find out for some publishers, and it's hard to compare the numbers because the publishers that don't have much in-house developing will look comparatively small.
