Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which control stick layout do you prefer?

In a perfect world it would be 100% full customization on a console basis, but hey stop dreaming.

So the 4 mainstream setup's are:

Default

Southpaw

Legacy

Southpaw legacy

Generally the last 2 are ommitted from most games, so I wanted to see how many are left out!  I myself prefer southpaw legacy but I usually have to adapt to plain southpaw.  So Which control stick layout do you prefer?

...your too hardcore for me...

what do those mean?

@ O-D-C: I agree. I have no idea what those mean, but I always play with default. I have to invert the Y-axis though.

Add me on Xbox Live: TopCat8

Southpaw is where you use your right analog stick to move, and your left analog stick to aim, Legacy is hard to explain. Just think of Goldeneye from N64.

Edit: Oh and I use default.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

To elaborate (although I could be wrong), with Legacy the left stick UP/DOWN controls forward/backward movement while LEFT/RIGHT turn and the right stick UP/DOWN controls vertical aim while LEFT/RIGHT strafes.

Southpaw Legacy would switch the stick functions I assume.

And having logged uncountable hours of Goldeneye, I prefer Legacy, though I usually don't bother to change from default in most games.

Which one is Metroid Prime?

Well I have never heard of those before.... but from the explanation by linkzmax I much prefer Legacy.

Luckily The Conduit actually has a similar set-up, where the control stick is identical to goldeneye (forward/backward and turn left/right) The only hazy part at the moment is where they moved strafe to.... I am hoping that they had the sensibility to map it to the tilt motion sesing of the nunchuck.

Southpaw (I'm right-handed tho) + inverted X\Y-axes in FPS, inverted Y-axis in TPS. Used to play like this since GE007 on N64.

But here's a problem, modern FPSs use face buttons in action, so I need to stop moving->peform action (jump for example)->put my thumb on right stick again to move further - this's rather disturbing. Sometimes I need to move right stick and press face button simultaneously, which is very uncomfortable. The better way to resolve this situation is to map those action buttons on d-pad instead of face buttons (for southpaw configuration), but in most FPSs there're no option like this.

P.S.: I wonder, why there still no trackball instead of this stupid right stick on modern gamepads? Little effort - great increase in accuracy in console shooters, almost like mouse, no need in motion controls.
