Contrary to popular belief, you can wake up an hour earlier every morning and exercise for 30 minutes to lose weight without WiiFit.

And it's possible to find entertainment outside of video games. What's your point?

I was a huge doubter of Wii Fit until somebody got it for me for Christmas ( nice hint) and now I must say I'm addicted, sure there are tons of other ways to excercize, but the way it tracks, and provides feedback is great. One thing that really blew me away was how bad my posture is, I put like 60+% of my weight on my right foot, I would have never known that without it.

There are also ways amuse yourself without playing video games. For some reason, people still buy video games, though. I'm sure there's no rational explanation why.

Of course Wii Fit isn't needed for exercise. Nothing is needed for excercise except working muscles, and nothing is going to do the exercise for you. Wii Fit isn't selling exercise, it's selling motivation. Virtual trainers, stat tracking and high scores help motivation a lot more than just making a new year's resolution and rolling back your alarm clock.

high scores = motivation = gratification?  If you need a virtual game to motivate you to have a healthier lifestyle there is a problem.  If you are using the program in conjunction with a workout routine, that is perfectly fine but in no way is Wiifit a healthy standalone workout routine.  People should exercise and practice Yoga for REAL reasons, not for high scores and instant gratification.  Same goes for the gaming music industry.

Correct, but if video gaming = all of your entertainment, there is a serious problem. Using video games as a standalone portion of any part of your life is a sign that you are lacking something much more than you are seeking and trying to fullfill through video games.

I'm glad the Wii is doing what you want it to - help you lose weight. Changing your entire life is quite a big deal. Maybe you should send Nintendo a christmas letter next year and say how much weight you lost?

Waking up 30 minutes to use Wii Fit is not a big deal. You make it sound like a crime to have some fun and exercise. If someone wants to use it for part of their daily life, who are you to judge?

And you make it seem like a crime to have an opinion?

It's fine to have an opinion. However it's my opinion that you are being overly judgemental and are not applying a fair standard.

So I should have explained everything I wrote in this thread in the first post.  Do that and how am I being overly judgemental?  WiiFit is a great tool to use in conjunction with an exercise routine but not as a standalone routine.  The only facet of Wiifit I am overly judgemental on is Yoga.  If anyone is actually interested in practicing Yoga, they should look into accredited studio's in their area to properly learn about the practice.  Hopefully the majority of WiiFit user's use the program as a segway into a healthier life with a full routine and dedicated non-virtual practice.

Why do you think that "real" reasons (by which I assume you mean health, fitness, and attractiveness, since these are the usual reasons why people want to work out) and amusement reasons are mutually exclusive? How does getting a high score invalidate the fact that I burned a hundred calories?

What's wrong with being amused while getting fit?
