Forums - Sales Discussion - First day sales in Japan (1/22) - Fragile, Left 4 Dead, Zill O'll

Zill O'll (PSP) 18000  50%

Fragile (Wii) 16000  45%

Left 4 Dead (X360) 13000 80%

Haruhi (Wii) 8500  30%

It's quite shocking cheap port of an ancient PS2 game managed to outsell Fragile on the first day. I really expected the game to do better, it has fantastic art and high production values. Not bad first day sales for LFD, 80% of the shipment sold.

For some reason Koei's games are selling rather well on PSP, Musou Orochi Portable 1&2, and now Zill O'll...

First day sales comparison:

Tri-Crescendo titles
Baten Kaitosu II (GC) - 9k
Valkyrie Profile 2 (PS2) - 225k
Trusty Bell (360) - 29k
Trusty Bell (PS3) - 22k
Fragile (Wii) - 16k

Suzumiya Haruhi titles*
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoku (PSP) - 60k
Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi (PS2) - 104k
Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidou (Wii) - 10k

* Limited edition + Standard edition for all 3 titles.

Very good for Left4Dead, good games should sell well

I don't know why people were hoping for Fragile to sell well anyways, the game has a great art style but it isn't the mainstream RPG people are waiting for.

The light of hope that could bring Fragile to America/Europe is shrinking.

bombs >_o where are the others numbers comming?.

left 4 death was expected, they even didn't send many shipment.

Not shocking at all, at least for me. This's a little bit exaggeration, but... new IP not made by well known developer and not supported by hype campaign, not standard jRPG = niche game in Japan.

Namco Bandai, bring it here and you'll get x10 to japanese sales guaranteed.

Hmmm...Fragile didn't do too bad. 16k is pretty good, Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes did less than that first week. So shouldn't do to bad overall if that's what it does first day.

Any game that sells above 45 or 50% of its initial shipment on day 1 clearly isn't a bomb.

0-33% = bomb
34-67% = sold as the developer anticipated
68-100% = developer underestimated their own game

Namco Bandai are not a small developer, and this game is from the same team that worked on Eternal Sonata. I just hope the decision whether or not to bring it here won't be based on Japanese figures.

That's not entirely true. The developer doesn't decide how big the first shipment is, the retailers do. You could expect your game to sell 1 million copies during the first week but it would still be possible that retailers only order 200k units of it.
