Forums - Sony Discussion - What If... PS3 Were Dropped To $200

This is simply a "What If" thread, no relevance what-so-ever so don't flame me for bringing such an outrageous price drop up. As the chance of this ever happening is basically impossible.

So here we go, what if the PS3 were to be dropped this year $200 alongside the 360. What would happen, what would the sales be, how fast would it catch up to the 360. Could sales even match or possibly... overtake the Wii in weekly sales ?

So please, elaborate on this idea.

what if Wii were dropped to 50$?

1. Shareholders would riot.
2. It would obviously beat ever other console.
3. What if the 360 was dropped to $50?

@atma998
that means wii production cost will most likely be a dollar(as the production cost was $200 at launch)

OT: Sony will be bankrupt within a week !

^ i would buy one for each room of the house, even the ones that dont have tv's in them.

on topic...
it would kill the competition, sony goes bankrupt

200$ PS3 = PS2 sales!

Major investors would pull out, shareholder will storm the company, and the sony would go under.

I TAKE NO SIDES

dammit,i hate the .99¢ store with a passion.......LOL

The answer is it wouldn't catch up at all. Doing so would cause Sony to go into a financial death dive. Which would quickly be reported in the media, and consumer confidence would plummet. Along with retailer confidence in line with the fear that they would be stuck with products no longer honored by a defunct company.

Basically it would be the herald of a company doing its utmost to kill itself. Which in the real world would have investors filing suit against management, and it would basically result in a cluster fuck which would see the products own demise, and the company promptly dismantled.

The question is irrelevant, because it is contradictory. How can the PS3 succeed by being that price if it destroys the product in the process. You cannot win a war by having your soldiers shooting themselves in the head.

Okay this isn't a reality thread, i thought i cleared that up. Should of been more specific, I was just curious to see ideas in terms of sales and whatnot. No shit they would go bankrupt and make a nose dive when they have yet to make a profit on the PS3 at $400 putting them obviously into a larger, substantial heap of issues at $200.
