Forums - Sales Discussion - xbox 360 dead as a dodo

shams said: The 360 has definitely lost some momentum - but this was inevitiable when the other consoles would be released. What MS has done wisely is delay/hold back several key titles - until the mid of this year. That will help the 360 regain momentum once the release hype over the Wii / Ps3 dies down.
I would even say the Xbox hasn't even started the fight yet. Microsoft did not move because they don't need to. They simply waited and lowered their costs. I think they simpy wait for their processor shrinking and then lower the prices to get most out of the next holiday sales. If Sony does not react they will loose market share, if they try to compete they will be in big trouble with their investors. Instead Sony obviously wants to cut their losses in Europe. Their normal price is about 600 Euro (792 $) although this version no longer contains the hardware compability to the PS-2, while some stores plan to sell the premium Xbox for 300 Euro. For PGR3 , Kameo, a second wireless controller and three months Xbox live add another 30 Euro. Due to the strong Euro the losses are probably minimal (300 Euro are 396 $ although you must acknoledge that these prices include tax). Although this is a sale I would not be surprised if this is in fact a pre trial for the coming price cuts in the next few months. If the Core would get the same price cut it would even be cheaper than the Wii (250 Euro) and would be in the main stream price corridor. So I would say: dead in Europe? Not quite, in fact Sony might get into interesting times.

Outside of Japan I would say Microsoft is doing alright and is probably waiting for a good opportunity to capatalize on its earlier launch/larger userbase, lower manufacturing costs and strong line-up ... If I were Microsoft I would be anticipating Sony having a disapointing E3 for several reasons; the main one will be that, although the games are demonstrated, several of the highly anticipated PS3 games will be delayed to TBA 2008. This should mean that Microsoft will have (in many ways) a better line-up through 2007 than Sony will ... As I see it, after E3 Microsoft will be anticipating people being disapointed with the PS3 and excited about the XBox 360 so it should be an ideal time to drop the price of the XBox 360.

This is funny, I was thinking of starting a thread about how the 360 is really starting to pick up momentum. I don't know about the Europe numbers(which other people are debunking anyways), but despite horrifically smaller launch numbers in NA, the 360 overtook the xbox this december. It posted some good January numbers and will do so again in February. Partly because recent games like Gears of War, Lost Planet and Crackdown. Sure Japan is a waste land, but if you compare it to the Xbox, you'll see that it's sold a lot more software, and has been posting much higher weekly numbers for some time now, meaning that it will probably overtake the xbox in the next 2 or 3 months. So with an install base of 10 million, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Forza 2, Halo 3, GTA and many other system selling games on the way, increased sales over it's predecessor and it's major competetor more expensive and in less homes, I'm actually quite possitive about the box of X

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well it's outselling the PS3 worldwide, so if it's dying, what does that say about the PS3. (No, it's not dying, stop being a fanboy and do some research before posting flamebait like this.)

Techincally speaking the Ratio of XBox 360 systems sold to PS3 Systems sold in Europe is Infinite ... (Currently the PS3 has not been released in Europe, it launches on March 23rd and it is constantly debated how anticipated the PS3 is)

I'd say not very damn good.

The PS3 hasnt started picking up steam yet. Here in a few weeks the first push for sony starts. Up untill now, has been the "yup. You bought a console... that wasnt done. You idiot haha." But unlike microsoft their not going. "Haha. Your 3 month old console sucks, and you got ripped off. We are totally rebuilding the 360." That would make me kinda... mad.
