Forums - Sales Discussion - Are you a fanboy?

What are you fanboy of? Can you defend it agianst me? (I'll grill you PS3 fanboys too... infact. I'm gonna grill myself here and now!) I'm a fanboy of 3rd party games. I like the PS3's hardware the best for 3rd party games. The best game on the PS3 right now is Resistance... while as fun as it was, it don't compare to FarCry... which is 3 years old. Graphically it's better. Graphics are great and all, but gameplay makes the game. Other than that. There are no 3rd party, or 1st party games worth getting near. Because of that the PS3 was a horrible purchace. I would value it at about 100$ for the purchace. (hey resistance is great fun and all. but it wasnt that great. and the fact BluRay discs still cost at least 20$. I'm not buying them. (infact, I'm not buying anything right now because I'm waiting for them to come to BluRay and then drop in price) 600$ for that thing? Ouch. what a ripoff. What I mean by I'm a 3rd party fanboy is. I think 1st party games have taken a 1 way trip to the crapper. If a publisher publishes/designs more than 20 games a year. With less than 2000 developers. Those games are gonna suck. (that is for last gen. Sony and micrsoft need 200 people per game... for 2 years) Nintendo is releasing close to 30-40 games a year, with less than 2000 developers. That equates to less than 50 developers, pushing a game out in less than a year. I like my games with quality. A good example of why I hate big developers/publishers. World of Warcraft. "It has been in development for 4 years... blahblahblah" saying that in 2004. I got the collectors edition. If you look through the book... the earliest CONCEPT art is 2001. Meaning the artists werent even modeling untill late 2001 or early 2002. They clearly lied about that number. The game had so little content, and so little to do when it launched, and then it received so little more content on a monthly basis, it was laughable. Another example is the new C&C3 demo. I install it, and start it. It starts at 1024x780. WTF seriously. Cant it tell I have a 8800GTS? Well... Maybe it dosent auto config... So I go into the graphics options, and try to set the resolution to 1280x1024. It says "Warning. Your computer might not run the game smoothly." or some crap. I tell it. ****you! And turn everything as far as it goes. (telling it "yes I understand" each time I change a slider it is warning me that I cant run it). After 5 minutes of toggling sliders and saying yes. I start the game. HOLY CRAP IT LOOKS HORRIBLE. (ok not horrible but I wasnt impressed) And it was running at some ungodly high framerate. I could never get the game to chug ONCE. And it was telling me. I couldnt raise the resolution. HA! In the game the characters are horribly animated, and there is no enviromental interaction. (C&C2 was a better RTS) The Goliath artillery unit, twitches, and fidgets like a dog. It even scratches it's neck sometimes. And for some reason. I just kept getting the feeling of Lord of the Rings. (yet I have never played a LotR RTS) Wonder why I kept getting that feeling... kinda strange huh? The graphics arent all that, unless you consider useing that 1 neat heat shader that waves like heat. *vomit* Ok... so that didnt amuse me. Let's try something... else. Supreme Commander Beta. Start that puppy, and everything is already turned all the way up. Just the way I like it. Get into the game. I spent 10 minutes getting my basic base designed and built, and get ready for the first wave of baddies. BAM they slam into my defenses and are obliterated with beautiful graphics. As I spend the next 2 HOURS trying to win. They finally beat me to a pulp. When I can spend over 5 hours on a 1on1... And enjoy the whole time. That is awosome. When I spend 20 minutes on a 1on1, and something feels wrong the whole time... somethings bad wrong. (C&C3) And I just wanna say. Before EA bought Westwood. C&C were the best RTS on the market. I like 3rd party games because they provide the most innovation. However sony is showing some neat stuff comming in the next year. But I don't plan on it staying. Not yet at least. I don't love sony enough to think they wont do what everyone else has done in the past. I play what I like, when I want, where I want, on what I want. Typically that puts me infront of my PS3, or my PC. (well not yet, but I will be infront of the PS3, or the PC for the next 6 months as far as I can tell. As I'm not even gonna be able to play Mario Galaxy to mock it for another 6 months. :( And no nintendo product with a date intrests me. at all. Actually on the Wii. lol. And C&C3 DID intrest me on the PC. Now C&C3 does not. (the demo seriously turned me off that much)

I'm a bit of a nintendo fanboy (own most of the old ones), although I do want a PS3, I won't be able to afford one for many years at this point. (owned 2 PSX, still got one, and own 2 PS2's cause the first won't read blue discs and sony wanted a few weeks and $75+shipping to fix it) :( I'm a big fan of J-RPG's, Strategy RPG's, Mech Games, and some other misc stuff mainly. :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

That dont give me anything to bash! Feed me! No seriously. I already ripped 3rd party games apart, and why big publishers are the bane of 'my' entertainment. :P Let me explain what is wrong with something else. I'm bored.

Well I am somewhat a Nintendo fan, but I do not jump on to new hardware before the games I want is there (which is the reason why I don't own a Wii yet). For me Nintendo has always stood for fun, which is what I am looking for. I am not that big fan that I couldn't buy another hardware if the game I want is on that hardware. So far Nintendo have succeded Some of the Nintendo games are done by thired party groups, heck some of my favorit Nintendo games has different studios behind them: Super Mario Strikers (next level games), Fire Emblem (intelligent systems), Paper Mario and Battalion Wars (Kuju) is done by independent groups using Nintendos license (at least I think so ). For me the best games are * arcade action like sport (so far from reality as possible thanks) * SRPG (turn based) * Turn based strategy (or actuly just CIV) * Plattform, big reason for why I am chosing Nintendo. I do think Mario is the best plattform "Hero"

It's nice to see software matters to you. Becuase that's what should matter. :P Nintendo does have a few good IPs today. But I think they were in their prime at the N64 launch. Battalion wars is the only one from that group you listed as 2nd party. (someone developing for mentioned brand) Battalion wars was fun. I bought it and had VERY high hopes. I played it for about 4 hours untill I realised it was such a task to keep your 'army' alive, that the only way to play it was to go out solo, 1 unit at a time. The AI in battalion wars was HORRIBLE for lack of better words. For your Arcade Action like sport - Motorstorm comes in as a sport because it's raceing. I'd say it's the best arcade feeling race game in 10 years. SRPG - There arent too many of these that are made today, but most of those that are made, come for the DS. Turn based strategy - Cant really think of any of those that I like... Platformers... I think Sony has a MUCH better game than any nintendo I have ever played. (3 months ago I would have said that would not happen. God of war, blew away my expectations. God of War2 is coming out soon... *drool*) Overall seeing the games that you would like, if your computer is capable of running this... http://egosoft.com Look into that game. Download the demo, and see if it works. That is one of the best games I have ever played. It's a cult game, that seems to grow like kudzu. I saw X2-The Threat's bencharking program. I was intreauged by it, and looked into the game. I found it for 20$. and bought it. That game made me... so happy. lol. And then 6 months later I knew X3 was comming so on launch day. (europe launch was like 2 weeks before US launch) I imported the Europe version... Two reasons. 1. I got it for 42$ (after shipping) 2. It was on 1 DVD instead of 4 CDs. 3. I still got it 3 days before it was released in america. :D X4 is kinda announced, and I am eagerly awaiting it to buy... gobble gobble I go. :P Please for gods sake, if you know how. DONT DOWNLOAD THIS GAME. They sell like 300,000 copies of the game. It's a great game, and you can buy it for 20-30$ today. If your even interested. It's worth it. They are one of the most successful small fry developers out there. (they dont get paid by a publisher to make the games. They make the games, and pay the publishers to publish their stuff) But seriously. If your into space sim/fighter/builder/RTS. This is the game for you.

Well GoW is not my type pf plattform I must hoenstly say, didn't even know that it was a plattform. Battalion Wars was easy to controll the army sometime I got really angry but I didn't think it was that important. Next level games is the guys behing blitz series so I didn't think that was nintendos firm? About motorstorm I would probarbly love that game, but buying a consol for 1! game when that consol cost me (with the game) around 7000 SEK makes me wait a little bit. I am much more intressted in buying PS2, I do want Guitarr Hero 1 and 2. My computer would probarbly be able to play that game, but for the moment it is in a box, I had to move from one town to another to get the job I wanted. I use a simple laptop here :) not the best one either...even bether a linux version is on its way(No I don't like windows). I never download games, I support those firms that sells the game I want.

? ? ? Hmm, yesterday I played on PS3 (pre-release PS3 truck tour in Poland) and I can't agree with you. Far cry was ok but in my opinion there is no comparison to Resistance. Far cry has cheap design (I'm talking about creatures, landscapes are ok) and for me the climate of the game is too ... hmm colourful. Resistance is gloomy. There is also much more objects - much more fun for sure. One thing I don't like in this game is aliasing. They should try harder... hmm I don't like these new triggers in sixaxis too... I found it too "plastic" but I will get used to

I am a PC fanboy (if thats the easiest way to put it) - which bleeds over to enjoying MS as a console of choice. I am a huge simulation & strategy fan. Once I play Civ 4, I will of owned every Civ made + the offshoots (cept for Civ Call to Power). Heck, I play Civ 1 on NES once in awhile. Very upset about the lack of such gaming on PC lately. Unfortunately, due to budgets, I can't afford a great desktop, and am forced to play pre-2003 titles for the most part. Games I play on PC are like: Warcraft 2 Age of Empires Command & Conquer (all the old school 2d ones) Civ(s) Imperium Galactica Capitalism 1/2 (Kawaad, the makers of your beloved X3 made this game before the X series existed) Betrayl series (krondor/antara) More than anything, I am an anti-fanboy. I dislike it when I see someone bashing another system using improper means (justifying the PS3 launch, bashing the 360, downplaying Wiis succuess, PS3 failure, ect). Even if I agree with their argument, I always want to correct poor usage of data. Not only this, I hate how everyone wants to state their absolute knowledge of a certian system's dominance in the future, despite no truth to the statement, as its mostly fanboy pipedreams (since we all know, there's no certainty with what the other 6 billion people in the world are gonna buy) For consoles, I enjoy sim/strategy gaming if possible. On my Xbox, I own Dai Senriaku 7, Shattered Union, Kingdom Under Fire: Crusaders among the other typical titles (KOTOR, Fable, Forza, ect). As a Xbox owner, I hate Xbots and Halo lovers. I honestly don't like Halo, and H3 will be lucky to even get rented from me. Anyone to predict the 360 beating the Wii/PS3 smokes crack, and thats illegal where I come from...Despite me feeling like that, I still don't like it when someone says that the 360 will only sell 20m units or some crazy number. But above all else, I am an RPG player. I've either owned or rented about every single RPG from 1985 to 1997 from every major platform. I am a huge Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest fan among others. I own every Squaresoft game on the SNES aside from FF:MQ. I despise the N64 above all systems and hate Nintendo in general for it. The system had 2 RPGs it's entire life. Quest 64 which was the most atrocious RPG made in the past 11 years, and Ogre Battle: Person Of Lordly Caliber, which was awesome. However, only 1 meaningful RPG does not a good system make. I bought an N64 due to Final Fantasy 4 (yes, it was FF4 in the US at the time) screenshots in Nintendo Power. But we all know what happened there. Generally, I dislike Nintendo because they over-do their prime franchises, and don't create enough RPGs. However, Super Mario RPG was a masterpiece...Which shows the need for more RPGs. Yes, you have paper mario, but thats one minor franchise. Fire Emblem never came out in the US when I was still interested in RPGs on Nintendo consoles.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
