Forums - Microsoft Discussion - PS3 and 360 are equally powered.

the statement 'PS3 and 360 are equally powered' is completely misinterpreting what this man said, and it is not true at all. I shall translate what this man said

"Shippy tells Gamasutra, "I'm going to have to answer with an 'it depends.' Again, they're completely different models. The PS3 has a much more powerful processor than the 360, and as such is much better at processor dependent tasks such as folding@home

"With the Xbox 360, you've got more of a traditional gaming system, that is pretty equal to the PS3 as far as gaming is concerned

"At the end of the day, when you put them all together, depending on the software, I think they're pretty equal at playing games."

I'm sorry to be arguing semantics here, I really am. I just don't like the claim that just because they are equally good at playing games, they are equally as powerful. The 360 might be as good for gaming as the PS3, but running any fair and objective benchmark, which tests CPU, GPU and harddrive in different tasks, the PS3 will win

this.

It comes down to the games guys. If you look at games that are on both systems, it's a dead heat. Show me one game that is on both systems that is signifcantly better than the other. All I'm asking for is one.

Lol when 360 can spit out something like KZ2 or Heavy Rain then I'll accept his statement.

Pass.

The Single core 7 treads with 6 SPE Cell processor have an "EDGE" over Triple-Core 6 treads Xenon processor but that's it, not like 3x better like some people put it, now what good would do that slight advantage when the NVIDIA RSX is a low end graphic card compared to ATI Xenos...adding also that the Ps3 chips can only used 256mb ram max when the Xbox 360 chips can use a full 512mb of ram if needed..

Break Down

PS3. XBOX360.

Cell + (plus) Xenon - (minus)
Nvidia RSX - (minus) ATI Xenos + (plus)
RAM - (minus) RAM + (plus)

Yeh you guys don't read do you, he said that the Cell itself is more powerful, hence it can do more complex operations but the fact is there are other things to take into account such as the GPU and bottlenecks etc.

360 has a better RAM set up, devs have come out and said this previously and also a better GPU set up so it all balances out when it comes to actually playing games

worthless thread..seriously...
developers already said that the ps3 and 360 has there own unique power..
we all kno the ps3 is stronger in terms of raw power and pushing out good good Grpxh

EPIC FAIL!!!!

Well thats strange cause no has ever seen a game come out on both systems that did not look better or just the same on the 360.

I think you epic fail fanboy. Now GTFO!

Once you get your eyes checked and your head uncloged with Sony's BS storys you can come back. :P

thats because they are ports, they are made to look identical.

"adding also that the Ps3 chips can only used 256mb ram max when the Xbox 360 chips can use a full 512mb of ram if needed.."

and no,the ps3 have 512mb ram to but split you think 256mb goes unused?!

the ps3 have GPU DDR3 700mhz ram, 256mb+ 256mb XDR rambus 3.2ghz that can be shared!.

the 360 have 512mb shared between gpu and cpu like integrated card. in 2009 both cards are considered low end, but both gpu may outperform similar spec PC Gpus due windows not being a bottneck.

ps3 RSX have more raw power potential.

but

"The efficiency is based on the fact that Xeon uses unified shaders architecture, which allows it to use the pipelines for either vertex/pixel shader calculations, so when pipeline is free it can be used by either."

The Cell certainly has an edge over the 360 for certain tasks. It's just that none of those tasks are really applicable to the way games are programmed.

I'm an IBM mainframe Z/os operator. You might think of a mainframe as a super fast computer, and it does have a lot of CPU power but that is not it's key strength. What a mainframe IS designed for is massive I/O and database updates.
A cluster of cheap Unix boxes might beat a mainframe for CPU intensive jobs, but when it comes to I/O and database commits, nothing else comes close.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
