Forums - Sony Discussion - Could Apple end up buying Sony?

One of the most ridiculous threads yet.

AceRock owns one PS3, one PS Vita, and one PS4.

No, Nintendo will buy Sony.

Why would Nintendo buy Sony?  Grabbing up pieces, MAYBE, but why the entire company?  I asked about Apple, because Sony is involved in areas, such as music, movies and videogames, Apple would like to get into.  Apple and Sony merging was discussed awhile back in I believe Wired magazine, or another tech magazine on alliances that could come to pass.  Nintendo has its own brand in the videogame market, and the rest deviates from their core market and their expertise, and how they video the videogame business.

If Sony was a lean targeted company like Nintendo with a few thousand employees and no excess divisions in areas where you have no interest; I could see this as a possibility. But of course, these are the very reasons Nintendo isn't even remotely available.

To buy into a company with 160,000 employees, big debt, and a gazillion product lines in which you have no interest, and several are competitiive, to get a trademark that is at the moment somewhat tarnished and a few studios, not unless they were totally insane. Besides Apple doesn't want anybody else's brand anyway, they want their own, and Playstation doesn't even start with "I".

I'm sorry but the above is either exagerated or straight ridiculous .

I actually think Grampy's post is spot on. I am sure Apple has no reason or desire to purchase Sony.

And Grampy's reasons seem very valid.

20 mil consoles in 2 yrs isnt bad at all. the PS brand is defntly not a loser brand. Even it were to sell for 7 yrs and sales grew at 20% p.a we would see atleast 60-70 million units in homes. Not bad at all. It wont be the ps2 but it wont be a loser either. SONY isnt going to sell something as precious as that..its as well known as "walkman" or "trinitron"!

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

sony them self is still making millions a year so why would they need apple? if apple took charge we all will see the elite of gaming in which most of us couldn't afford kinda like the over priced iphone and ipods, but dont get me wrong, they are expensive devices but fun to have but why do apple need to make an iphone $600.000 or $300 with contract for 2 years at a rate of 80-90 per month for phone service, yes thats right they just want to f**k with you and tell you that we dont give a rats ass, sorry but thats not the kind of game company i like to be in place of sony.

Actually, when apple devices do not meet demand/sales expectations, Apple is quick to respond with price adjustments and even offer discounts/rebates to customers who purchased the discounted product at full price in some instances..

For instance, when the iPhone was first released. I agree, Apple products do sell at a premium, but within reason and based on what it believes its customer base is willing to spend...and Apple is a brand that will more than likely pull through this recession with decent financial results.

For anyone thinking in terms of Sony buying Nintendo probably is a little unclear about their current size in terms of financial position. Sony could no more buy Nintendo than an earthworm can swallow an elephant - check out my new thread "How Big is Nintendo Now - (Warning- your head may explode!)

OKay listen, Sony is the second biggest conglomerate in the world. They are part of a group called the big 10, which consists of GE, disney, etc. Apple does not even have a fraction of what it would cost to buy sony. And if you mean will Sony sell its console department, you are dead wrong. Not with the way that bluray has been selling
