Yeah Wii is not getting near its 2008 performance. Not even with a pricecut, which BTW isn't going to happen anytime soon. Nintendo thought that with 2 - 3 games / year people would have enough reasons to buy a Wii, but it doesnt work like that.

This year started terribly wrong, with no new big releasese from Nintendo on the first half, with all momentum being lost to a point where 360 is apparently outselling the Wii 2:1 in the UK (which I doubt BTW).

2nd half is bound to be slower in 2009 than in 2008, due to interest already beginning to fade away in the West and overall poor sales in Japan. We might see Nintendo lower the yearly projections by a good amount, 26 million is impossible.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Remember:

Wii is 1,2 millions less in 2009 than 2008.
Wii had major shortages last holiday.
NSMBWii + WII fit plus are better than animal crossing and wii music (saleswise)
I'm not saying nintendo will meet its projection, but you can't rule out everything because WSR fails to boost significantly Japan.

Go buy Metroid OTHER M!

WSR and Wii Fit Plus are sequels, so the boosts they may provide aren't gonna be as big as the boosts MKWii and Wii Fit produced. Also, NSMBWii, why would it give the Wii such a big boost, Mario fanbase is laready 8 million or more on the Wii, I don't think it's going to be that big of a boost.

There's nothing new this year as opposed to last year which had Wii Fit, MKWii, SSBB and Animal Crossing/Wii Music, this year it's just sequels.

It's a 2d mario you know. Again, I'm not telling they are going to meet expectations, but saying It's impossible is too early.

They wouldn't just have to meet the expectations but also to make up for all the lost sales happening right now.

c0rd said: Even in the slim chance Wii supply catches up with demand (doubtful), Wii Sports Resort / Motion plus seems to be coming in the first half of 09. That's a massive bomb waiting to blow...

Phoenix_Whitte said: with all the wii games going to be released soon, id be suprised if it didnt sell as much

irstupid said: As someone said, too much taking new released into account. All you have to do is look at WiiFit, Mario Kart and others to see that people are buying them by the truck load.
Like I said somewhere else, most people don't like waiting for the girl to turn 18. They would rather go to the bar and play with the girls that are already 18.

Well as soon as The Conduit comes out all Hardcore gamers are gonna come to the Wii and scare the "kiddy's and Grandmas" off and the Wii will start selling like the HD systems.

Shanobi said: If you're going to mention something like a "bubble burst", a reason why would be great. Otherwise, it just sounds like 2007.

Or worse...maybe those grandmas will be shouting "tea bag!" into their Wii Speak microphones...

The Source said: I'd wager sales will be up throughout the year in the Americas, almost regardless of what they do.

For Others...

Same deal...Sonic. Music games. Mad World. Wii Sports Resort. Punch Out. A few other supporting titles. Thats probably enough to keep sales steady or up slightly in the first 26 weeks.

The Wii only managed to sell about 7.3 mill from jan- june 09 compared to over 8 mill it did in 08

Thanks guys as those posts made me smirk a little after reading them

Next im coming for U Benga Benga and the rest of the vgc community that doubted me wen i said re5 will sell more on the ps3 than the 360 by the end of 09 OPEN ME  and OPEN ME

Your threads have good meaning.

I think there's a good chance Nintendo can make up all the lost sales in this second half of the year.

How far is the Wii behind in the US and Others?
