1) Assumption: PS3 is filled with smart gamers.
2) Assumption: Smart gamers like artsy games.
3, from 1 + 2) PS3 is filled with artsy games.
4) PS3 is not selling
5, from 3 +4) Artsy games don't sell.

Barring the gross logical errors in getting to 3 and 5 from the assumptions, assumptions 1 and 2 are entirely unsupported by any sort of real-world evidence. His argument is neither valid nor sound, and he comes off sounding like, to quote NJ5, a pretentious cock.

I tried hard to make this post as pretentious as his, and I don't think I succeeded, that's how pretentious it was.

It's right in some areas PS3 needs to get back to it's PS roots and stop fancying things around but you got to give sony credit they spend a lot of time with SW this gen that's why we get delays but the final product is a masterpiece

my favorite part
The Cross Media Bar (XMB) is much cleaner and more Google-esque than Xbox Live, filled as it is with ads and other clutter, or the boring grid on the Wii menu.

He has a point. Hell, Fumito Ueda (head of Team ICO) has (or had, before Sony went into the red) an almost unlimited budget at SCE. I think he's the only developer in SCE that has such power. Yamauchi (head of Polyphony Digital) might be another one.

Team ICO, who's games are amazing, yet don't sell much at all, has this kind've power.

Oh man, I love europa universalis.  I picked up EU1 for $2 new at EB waaay back when, then proceeded to play a single game for the next 6 months after I learned the basics.  Heck, I still remember the final boundaries of my empire from that particular game...

I think the critical error of a large portion of the videogame industry (Sony included) was they looked at a handful of games that had amazing sales and tried to emulate their success ... While they probably wouldn't phrase it this way, there was a belief that the majority of gamers who had never shown an interest in these kinds of games before would rush out to buy them if they only had better graphics and were in HD.

If I had to compare all of the publishers in the industry for originality, Sony would definately be on top.

If you're looking to define "artsy" -- that's really the only logical place to go, so... hate it all you want, and enjoy your Cadbury or Perugina chocolate bar too (pretend its "the good stuff", if you like). Sony innovates in PS3 software more than the rest, and has throughout their history.
