Actually, no, that is not the position of Jewish law, as you are misinterpreting the scripture.

Halacha is quite specific that because the abortion of the fetus was unitentional when striking the woman, it was viewed as what we would call today, "man slaughter".  In other words, the actions of the person were intended to harm the woman, and not with the purpose of harming the fetus.  If it could be proven that the individual struck the woman with the intention of harming the fetus, and the fetus then died, then that person would be liable for the death of an living person (the fetus).

pro life. People have a choice before they engage in sex. And for the rarer cases that they don't, such as rape, there is a couple of weeks period after the act during which many embryos are naturally miscarriaged and not formed that you can take proactive measures to ensure that you don't get pregnant. If the person still waits too long, then that is again, their choice.

The point is that they have options to choose from at some point in the line. Not that they are allowed to do whatever they want at any stage they want. Once a person has decided to have a chance at having a baby, then they have decided to allow that chance to occur. You don't go to a restaurant, order your meal, eat it, and then spit it back up and demand something else just because you changed your mind. Once its put into motion, it should be a done deal.

What we NEED to do is make sure that people and kids know all of the implications of having sex and help people understand that being raped is nothing to be ashamed of. So that they can come forward confidently.  We need to show kids the results of poor sexual decisions, not on a dry erase board, but rather by taking them to poor single family homes, shelters, and on other field trips that make sure they have the knowledge engrained into their conscious. Show them how hard getting a degree or living a fulfilling life is when you put so much pressure and responsibility on yourself at such a young age.  We shouldn't teach that they can do whatever they want and everything is going to be ok somehow. Life doesn't work that way and we shouldn't give anybody that impression simply because our lives are much more convenient than they were 100 yrs ago.

And to those wanting to give people a choice and yet considering abortion murder, people can have choices as long as it isn't at the expense of someone else. And in those cases, they still have a choice, but must suffer the consequences. I do feel they should be made to understand what those consequences are, however, even before they commit the act, so that when they engage in committing the act, they understand the choice they are making.

In the case of abortion, it affects the eventual life of the child. Therefore it is at the expense of someone else, and unfortunately that someone else cannot stand up and say "I want to live my life." It is similar to looking at anyone in society and then saying I'm going to go back and remove them from existence before they were even born. So if you chop them up before birth, is that not just as wrong as if you were to wait until they are 80 or just go ahead and do it in the present? Heck, people are even thrown in jail for planning a murder, even if they were never to actually see it completed, which means they are sentenced based on the possibility of it happening in the future. Why not if it happened in the past?
