Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft game announcements potentially hurting sales?

Most people who hear the announcements of games which are more than 6 months away either already have a console or know that Sony/MS have a different strategy. The average gamer doesn't spend a lot of time at internet forums.

This.  The non-enthusiast consumer is just gonna go by commercials that they see on tv and what looks cool.  The enthusiast consumer visits sites like IGN and Gamespot on a regular basis and knows how these things work.

I disagree with the OP about the 360's lineup.  To me, it looks great.  Infamous = Prototype imo.  Killzone 2 will probably be as good as Halo 3: ODST.  There is no God of War for 2009.  There is no Gran Turismo for 2009.  There is Heavy Rain, but seriously, that game won't be a hit.  It'll probably get a metacritic from like 84-92 and it'll be a sales flop.

You seriously think that the same consumers who put their purchasing power to use and made the only NPD charting PS3 games shooters for the last two months are gonna go out and buy a gunless murder mystery game?  If that game was on the Wii, maybe it'd be a sales hit.  Murder mystery sounds like something soccer moms and older gamers would totally get into.  But PS3 and 360 owners... yeah right.  The only games they care about are shooters.  Maybe a select few on message boards are hyped, but the masses have the blinders on.

No guns + no decapitations = no buy.

Heavy Rain will not do what Little Big Planet, Valkyrie Chronicles, Banjo 3, Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia couldn't.  Those games were well reviewed and some of them were big name titles with alot of buzz.  Most of these are in traditional gaming genres.  If those didn't crack, you seriously think a choose-your-own adventure book in game form is gonna set the world on fire?  Thats whats gonna make people put down Killzone and Resistance and take notice that there is more than one genre of gaming in existense?

Nobody cares about non-shooters, that aren't sports games that is, anymore.  Those that do own a Wii or are sitting around grumpy that only like 3 games come out per year for their PS3 and 360 and nobody seems to like them no matter how good they are.

Outside of that, what does the PS3 have?  A bunch of unknown titles that might be great and might suck, just like the 360 and Wii.
