Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft: Wii is a "Girl-driven" system

Certainly, the Wii is more appealing to female semi-gamers and non-gamers than the other two systems. And if you turn them into gamers ... then suddenly you have a larger market ready to buy your entire product line (core, traditional, and casual).

What's a non gamer?  If you "play" a game would you not be a "gamer" of some sort?  Please explain this crazy talk of yours.  A non gamer is someone who has never played a game.  Once they have played a game, they are now a gamer.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

@ Outcast - BringBackChrono just said it for me. Girls may like to play with horses but My Horse and Me by Atari is superior to Ubisofts offering. Their games for girls are usually cheaply made affairs and girls deserve better.

Ubisoft also has nothing for all those women who own Wiis. So I don't think they're in a position to brag (although their still further ahead than 95% of the industry when it come to female oriented games).

No, you are completely wrong. You have never played any of the games you're talking about and I doubt you've ever even seen them. Girls and younger children have no expectations about quality or game play. They want to play a game about horses even if you or the enthusiast press hardcore games reviewers don't.

I remember being really young and dumb and still knowing "fun" from "boring."  I could tell a good platformer from a pathetic cash-in before I could read.  Girls and young kids aren't as stupid as you think.  They've been making pathetic cash-ins, games for girls, and games for young kids, for as long as I can remember.  I can tell you firsthand that The Little Mermaid is an amazing game on the NES, and Barbie is a horribly shitty game on the NES.

As a proud owner of Hello Kitty Happy Party Pals on the GBA and ex-owner of Hamsterz on the DS, I can tell you that these games suck, are pathetic cash-ins, and rely on franchises and/or cuteness rather than fun.  If you ever have a daughter and expect her to enjoy crap like this, you will make a horrible parent.

Most girls I've talked to would rather play Zelda or Final Fantasy than any "girl game," and that is part of why those franchises are so successful.  They are appealing to girls and boys.  And you can make stuff cute without making it insulting and retarded and covered in babyz, horsez, and flowerz.  That's what Yoshi and Kirby are for.

Just where the fuck do you meet girls!? I've NEVER met a girl who liked to play Final Fantasy. Fighting button mashers, even FPSs, sure, but Final Fantasy? Or any JRPG? I think I would just start to dryhump her leg within 2 seconds of her saying that Setzer is cooler than Seph!

I think he means people who didn't really game much before the Wii came along. You know, the folks who get cajoled into picking up that Wiimote, throw a strike, and decide they might want more.

Everybody's a non-gamer at some point, and the Wii is designed to make the transition easy.

My wife enjoyed playing Final Fantasy VI when I got her to play it. Granted she didn't play it before me, but still.. also I used to live with a girl who was a gamer of her own accord and she likes FF too. So I don't think it's quite the phenomenon that one may think.

Now when I met a girl who played Warhammer (NO BF/Husband) thats when I got scared.

I don't think I've ever played the wii without a female being involved. They weren't always the console owner but there was always one playing along and they were usually the reason why we played the wii instead of a more traditional video game console.

I've never met any of them. And when I tried to get a girl to play FFVI... let's just say it didn't go so great. But then again, I think that might've had something to do with the fact that I use to say to her over and over again how much I loved my consoles more than I loved her or anyone else.

Hrm, really? Most of the girls I know that are into video games usually have Final Fantasy near the top of their list. Could be b/c most of them are asian (if that changes anything), but yeah... oh, Kingdom Hearts too, of course.

Ah, and your comment above is hilarious

My sister-in-law is a HUGE gaming and Anime fan so you can bet she's all over JRPGs including Final Fantasy and games like Zelda. Owns a Wii and PS3.

But I shalln't say more lest my brother need to extract Johann from her leg...

So now I'm a creep? How does that work? There are people who dryhump while loving and respecting, you know!

Are people really arguing with this statement ...“What’s driving the Wii sales is the use of Wii by women, girls and families,” ?????
