Ubisoft: Wii is a "Girl-Driven" System

January 13, 2009 by Art Green

Ann Hamilton, a senior brand manager with Ubisoft, said that Nintendo’s Wii console is a “girl-driven system,” and is one of the main reasons the Wii has had such success in the marketplace.

What’s driving the Wii sales is the use of Wii by women, girls and families,” Hamilton said in an article from the Tulsa World. “It’s a really female-driven platform.”

Hamilton believed that Ubisoft’s two brands that target female gamers–Imagine and Ener-G–have helped Nintendo target the female demographic with the Wii.

Girls wanted sports games to play, as well,” and pointed to their gymnastics and horseback riding titles as filling that need.

Should I cut off my Penis then?

Oh I get it, by "girls" they mean "5 year old girls."

Certainly, the Wii is more appealing to female semi-gamers and non-gamers than the other two systems. And if you turn them into gamers ... then suddenly you have a larger market ready to buy your entire product line (core, traditional, and casual).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

IT's no secret Wii is popular with the ladies but Ubisofts lame gymnastics and horse titles aren't doing anything for the Wii except maybe exploiting it's users.

Last I checked the Wii owners were still majority male too but I don't think there's anything wrong with it having equal appeal amongst women.

They may be lame to you, but they're certainly more interesting to young girls than Zelda or whatever you may enjoy.

Its not girl driven, though the ladies have a reasonable contribution in the runaway success of wii, and more importantly, Wii Fit.
Ubisoft are just giving themselves more space to lay more turds which they pass off as games. I mean, the ladies deserve much better.

Isn't Wii's userbase 50/50 in terms of genders? Or was that DS?

I remember Nintendo posting statistics on this a while ago, just don't remember for which one.

All I really saw in that article is "Girls Play the we and we have created two horrible franchises to exploit this inexperienced demographic," Otherwise how could they sell shit like: imagine babiez, imagine horsez, imagine herpez.

@ Outcast - BringBackChrono just said it for me. Girls may like to play with horses but My Horse and Me by Atari is superior to Ubisofts offering. Their games for girls are usually cheaply made affairs and girls deserve better.

Ubisoft also has nothing for all those women who own Wiis. So I don't think they're in a position to brag (although their still further ahead than 95% of the industry when it come to female oriented games).
